@cshoreā€™s notes from the first post:

If youā€™re helping me count a show, please round your findings to the nearest 15 second interval, and look at the guidelines for what is improv.

Due to unforeseen levels of boredom, Iā€™ve been counting out UM shows in terms of total length of improv. Looking for the shows with the absolute most jamming. Iā€™m surprised to see this hasnā€™t been done before.

Iā€™ve just started and Iā€™m only going through shows that have a reasonable chance of being in the top percentage of improv. If anyone wants to help me with this, feel free!

Feel free to give me more shows to do, but keep in mind Iā€™m looking for only shows that will get reasonably close. If it looks to be under 50 minutes of improv I wonā€™t bother, and if itā€™s 2 sets then probably closer to 60.

Some things that Iā€™m including and not including as improv:
-Improv sets and UMBowl S2s will not count. It basically goes without saying that those shows will have among the most improv. Fancy reprises will also count, until the theme of Fancy is played again.
-Fancy intro jams count as improv, until Jake plays the A Major chord
-All teases and cover jams are included unless they are clearly within the confines of the ā€œsongā€ they are played in.
-Repeat stews are included, unless they are named and tracked separately by the time of that show taking place. So, 6/11/06 Haunt would count as improv but Yoga Pants/White Pickle after its UMBowl debut would not.
-Jake solos between Snucka Pt II and III will not count as improv
-Implied hand signal jams in Mulcheā€™s (before the main jam slot) will not count as improv.
-Any intro to a song that is not usually present/repeated that lasts for over a minute will count as improv. For example, 1/27/11 2nd Self has a 2 minute intro that I am counting. -Should I include ā€œdrums?ā€ Iā€™m leaning toward yes, because if a jam has a minute of drums sandwiched into a jam on both sides I would definitely include it.

This was a fun project. Would be fun to dive into some of the great 2019 shows sometime.

Surely 12/30/19 is now the most ever. Has to be over 80 mins easily.

8/15/19
2/15/19
3/29/19
5/18/18

All of these have a lot.

this is the thread I was looking for.

just crushed 4/21/17 > Derek and Susan. good times.

Might go through some of these tomorrow. We didnā€™t count improv sets/S2 sets, but Iā€™ll make a special category for them in the OP

Yeah and I think 12/30/19 would fall under that special show category. Tough to say. Technically it was in a song lol but still a planned ā€œletā€™s jam for a whole setā€ type of thing

66:45 of improv in this show. 21 years ago yesterday

I feel like there was a show from 2021 or 2022 that cracked the top 5? Almost want to say its a festy set?

I believe it was Resonance ā€˜21. Had a ton of kinda mediocre improv

It was. To each their own, I thought it was a solid show. Patient, plentiful improv
