I retired the shirt KnoxVillan (I think it was Jesse?) made for this show. 18 years old young and dumb. I had a great time for this one. Think I slept in the attic of Thad’s house that night.

Still have that shirt, and think I only wore it once or twice. Have a hard time wearing red shirts when it’s not a badger’s game day. :man_shrugging:

edit: it is Jesse

I love these jams so much… the Brownie one has been spun many times. McL totally included it in JS comps.

love that guy. haven’t run into him since the tsunami relief shows in san francisco but got a chance to see a handful of moe. and UM shows with him.

second time i saw UM was 6/29/2002. a week later, im in a parking lot in cleveland before a moe./claypool double bill and run into McL. i let him know that i loved that 6/29 show and it clicked much more with me than the first time i saw UM. he told me to wait a second, and he went to the front seat of his car and then handed me a pair of CDs encompassing the 6/29 show that he had taped

He was (is, surely) a legend - got a lot of good recordings from him in my early Umphreys days as well.

Wonder what he’s up to these days

I got so many of my early fandom shows for free via street team from him.

Which means I’ve now been seeing Umphreys for longer than I haven’t been seeing Umphreys. Weird.
