Today in Umphrey's McGee History

Saxton did lights 8.31.08 & 9.1.08. I saw a bunch of shows that year and Budney was back by Canopy Club 11.13.08. I think the New Years run was Waful’s first official run with the band.

Obilgatory bump. You must hear the OoO through Plungie to open the 2nd set. The way they jam sandwich into and out of QBert is so fucking good. There was like all of 100 people there, probably the tiniest UM show I’ve been to. A bit lacking in 'prov in the 1st set though the acoustic dance party in Kabump is pretty fun, a lot of bustouts for the time.

Such a good show. Great example of an um show not needing 70 min of improv to be amazing imo

That Nemo is so fucking good

Just saw a few pics I took in my gdrive. Might be a top 5 for me just based off song selection and flow. That acoustic Kabump segment is so good, as is the beginning of the 2nd set.

I also have the setlist from this show. Was nice to walk right up to the stage and grab it. Also reentry during setbreak was cool.

I believe Phish was doing a free benefit show in VT that same night so that could’ve ate into attendance but 100-150 people is probably still being generous.

Blue ASAT Jake FTW

Is it better than 4.3.2007 though?

Toasting the 17th anniversary of this show, September 21st, 2006. It’s a very important/sentimental show for me because although it was my second show, it was the one when umphreys finally “clicked.” Not to mention, it’s also what led me to the og bort thanks to some peeps i met who were on ter.

Everyone in the crowd was hyping the show before it started because umphreys was coming off a 12 or 13 day break and they were going to be fired up - which they were.

Walked out of this show not knowing what had hit me. Blown away and with an insatiable desire to see more umphreys.

FF jam was good. Fuzz jam had a nice, long Mrs. Robinson’s Strut jam. Snucka is one of my fave versions. Mulche’s with a nice jam as well.

9-21-06 - Fox Theater (Boulder)

Fading memories of a lonesome old scmuck…

I was coming out of the portapotties when i saw the unmarked white van and trailer, and Joel digging through in search of his baseball glove. “Wanna come over to my campsite for a little sumpin sumpin?”
“Sure,” he replied. “Just lemme put my glove in the van.” Bayliss was sitting in the back seat, writing out the setlist in a spiral notebook. He asked if I had any requests, my middle-aged gnoob response: “the girls said they’d really like to hear some Beatles.”
Stasik showed up at that time and he and Joel followed me to my campsite, where they hung with us for about 20 minutes. At some point, Al DiMeola came up in conversation, which resulted in Senor Mouse being included in the setlist. UM was supposed to headline, but wound up coming on earlier as Garaj Mahal was late to arrive.
Fun times.

They were a fun band. Threw their own mini-fest (Euphio Campout) for a few years, first at Bearcat’s Getaway, then at Camp Zoe until the feds seized the property. Sean Canan (guitar) still plays around the STL/ CoMo area in a couple different bands.

Good times :sunglasses:

Missed this yesterday. First set is up there with best I’ve seen. Jake on moog guitar. Top versions of SF1, Plunger, & Snucka right in a row. First and best of 10 shows in 10 days with 4 in NYC. Spent last week in NYC with the family and made me want to go back for some shows.
