The Newb Thread

Hey all. Been listening to UM for a couple of years and lurking on here for a couple of months, but this is my first post. Thanks @SchladopianFir for creating the thread - it’s been helpful.

So I’m planning on hitting the NYC shows, but I’m on the fence about doing the umVIP and interested in any pointers pro or con. Is this just a cash grab? Even if it is a bit of one, I’m leaning towards pulling the trigger - it isn’t all that much more than a Tool ticket anyways, and I assume the VIP set will be sick.

Also, do these go quick? Do I need to be on clicking at 10 sharp for a shot at these?

I can’t help with the VIP questions, but welcome!

Maybe @bluish would be kind enough to log in and give you an opinion

Also welcome

It’s convenient while being a cash grab, guaranteed to get a rarity played during the vip set. Worth doing at least once, imo.

I’ve only seen one VIP set but it came with a 20 min Last Man Swerving

Every package is different, some are sweet and some are clearly a cash grab.

I did VIP in Asheville ‘22 and it came with a signed poster, a zip-up hoodie, open bar during the VIP set. That was worth it to me

They should really just play LMS all the time

I did it for the 2011 red rocks run and then Iceland. It was worth it for the convenience , but some are a total cashgrab

When I use to sell weed, we did vip all the time. Early entry plus free booze was always a plus. Now I wouldn’t dare do vip. Talk about a waste of money. Sheesh

Never done VIP, but I suppose no harm in doing it once. I would however, recommend headphones. Thats something every UM fan should do at least once.

Complete game changer imo

Wow. Thanks all for the warm welcome and the tips! Very much appreciated. Leaning towards going for it, with the open bar as the tipping point. Going to be down there VIP or no … maybe I’ll run into some of you.

@MarchHare welcome, and I’m so sorry in advance. We’ll try to jade you slower than @Zencer.

Definitely agree that VIP and headphones are worth doing at least once as a noob. The VIP set will likely drop at least one rarity for you to fluff your stats with. And from a cash grab standpoint, NYC definitely isn’t a bad place to do VIP since you could easily spend as much/more pregaming at a bar vs the VIP open bar.
