Rockjavik: A 3 night run in Iceland

We booked a whale watching trip and a Reykjavik food tour. Other than that, planning to just do things at our own pace - lots of driving and hitting short hikes and roadside views on our own time.

Food tour was something we did in Hanoi and we got to try a bunch of food we probably wouldn’t have tried on our own. It was one of the highlights of the trip. Hopefully this one is worth it, though it’s a lot more expensive than Hanoi (because duh). Expecting it will be a lot of food that we will be eating anyways on our own, but probably get a few other things that we wouldn’t have tried otherwise plus some good history about food/culture in Iceland.

Out of curiosity what kinda hikes you planning? I have some big Iceland hiking objectives but none are really accessible in the winter

Golden Circle can very much be done at your own pace but we also rented a vehicle. But it’s so popular I bet there are 53512956 tours operating per day.

As someone who knows nothing about this particular attraction, I just imagine this as having something to do with golden showers.

There are geysers involved.

Just heard from a reliable source that Brownie is making the trip to Iceland next week as well.

So he’s decided to join Star Kitchen for their shows? How nice of him

A friend just said “we’ll see brownie next week in Iceland too” when we were chatting about the DUMB dates.

@anon72818525 are you still willing to get me a coffee mug from the Icelandic Phallologocal Institute? I’ll Venmo/PayPal.

Sure will! Any backup idea if they don’t have mugs? I don’t see a gift shop page online

There’s a photo on the google listing with some gift shop items. Looks like you’ll be good.

They have pics on their Facebook page and I’m pretty sure the store is mostly drinkware. They have simpler coffee mugs which would be my choice. I’ll take a bottle opener or magnet or whatever if mugs are a no go. Nothing too fancy or, anything that would be a hassle for you to carry around. Thanks!

I should have said, “I’m keeping time open for hikes”. I’m a trail runner and had hoped to get some action in on this trip, but the more I look at AllTrails comments, the more I’m realizing that weather likely won’t be on my side to do anything with much elevation. I’ve found a cool shorter routes (~4-5mi) near the coast/beaches in Vik, and some longer stuff out on the Snaefellsnes peninsula. WIll just need to play it by ear with weather.

Running is probably out of the question unless it’s right on the beach. Most hikes in winter there require crampons.
