Rockjavik: A 3 night run in Iceland

I don’t think I have any desire to see any of those late nights

Ok I’ll bite what are the late nights?

Tauking McGee would be interesting to me, but only because I have yet to see them.

Would also like to see Star Kitchen and Vintage Caravan. Also wouldn’t mind seeing Jason Huber (Cherub) do Prince. Shit, I guess I just can’t relate and would be at least mildly interested in virtually all of the late-nights.

This is the only one I’m really considering, and I may be pretty wiped by day 3, so who knows if I’ll even want to by then. I understand why, but I’m kind of bummed the late nights are essentially the same as the openers

Yeah, they locale definitely limits the options to change things up. Not necessarily ideal, but I also remembering that we should ‘expect’ to see lots of sit-ins, so I think there’s some possibility of pretty unique stuff going on at the late-nights. Hard for me to believe that sit-ins would only take place during the openers/UM sets, but what do I know.

Anybody know anything more about Jen Hartswick & Her Band of Heathens?

Yeah Tauking McGee is the only one of interest for me. Even then probably just go for some of it to check it out. Heading out the morning after to Vik for the next leg of our trip.

$50 just to check some of it out is a little steep.

Oof $50? Didn’t see that, probably a pass from me then.

holy shit they are charging $50 to see this garbage??

Yeah - between everything being more expensive in Iceland, and the fact that they’re intimate 250 capacity venues, I’m not surprised. But definitely think twice before committing to it. I’m sure drinks will be outrageously expensive, too.

Yeah I can’t even imagine what a beer is going to run you at the Harpa

I’ve been told drinking isn’t that different than NYC prices. Not that that’s cheap necessarily, but it’s the food that’s really the expensive part.

No drinking is very expensive in Iceland. When my wife and I went we only truly went out drinking hard one night of the three we were there until moving on to our next country. We spent almost 250-300 US dollars on booze at bars that night. We had a blast because the bars there are really fun and the locals are great. Just a little different since I live in Milwaukee and I can get hammered here for $20.

I plan to buy a couple bottle of liquor at the duty free on the way there for pre-gaming purposes.

I got seats in one of the Muppet Show Boxes…anyone wanna swap seats for a set to get a different view?

My gf and I have seats 7 and 8 in Section S. It’s right at the front of the top balcony Jake-side. I’m psyched to be up there–unobstructed view, privacy, dancing room–but if anyone with decent orchestra seats wants to trade places for a set we’d enjoy getting a more traditional view.

So psyched for this trip!

Everyone should do this. Buy as much as you can. Iceland liquor stores are open for like four hours three days a week and charge $75 for a fifth of Bombay. It’s awful. The duty free shop is the way to go.

And it’s definitely more expensive than even the priciest US cities. $10 is about the normal price for a [good] beer. Socialism, yo. You get free healthcare? Expect to pay a lot for things that are detrimental to your health.
