Yeah, Kris had to go.
Iâve dabbled a little more this afternoon and agree with you on the overall quality of the boards. That may be whatâs holding me back from loving this iteration of the band.
Iâm listening to 10/24 Plunger. It really felt like they were about to nuke this into outer space around the 11:45 mark. Instead it kind of fizzles out. They sort of recover and salvage a nice peak at the end but yeah, i get blue ballsfrom listening to everything with Zwang so far. Love the patience. Appreciate the effort (felt like the last few years this has been lacking). Just hope that Zwang is capable of driving the band at some point.
I think you hit it dead on. Scotty is a groove drummer. Heâs got chops but doesnât flaunt them. Sometimes with Kris I felt that he was trying to fit too much into every moment, even if it amazed the hell out of me. Every once in a while I just wished Kris would lay back and just groove for a moment. His style fit Umphreyâs ADHD. However, the last show I listened to (11/7), the groove just felt good, and you could tell the rest of the band is happy to have that.
I agree. I like the patient jamming but the ability to take it to â11â is missing. Thatâs something that Kris did so well it was unbelievable at times. I hope Scotty can get to the point where he feels comfortable taking more chances and going for it more.
Thank you for articulating this, being able to do both is super hard apparently.
@cshore Kevin is a fucking mutant, he is very good at doing both consistently.
Legit starting to become one of my favorite drummers in this shitty little scene
I think Zwang will get there with more shows under his belt. I just know that Iâve been enjoying the Zwang era so far
Someone described his drumming style as, fitting 5 pounds of shit in a 1 pound bag, and it made sense to me.
Exactly, the biggest learning curve I saw in the August run and weed fest show was transitions back into songs. But thatâs something learnable and heâll get there. Havenât spun alot of recent stuff but really excited about the Chicago shows and the Madison>first Ave shows
Whatâs the short list? Iâm assuming Hawaii is on there.
Pretty sure HI and Wyoming are the only states they havenât played.
Itâs a shame cuz that means theyâre for sure doing some Hawaii garbage when really Iâd love to go camping and climbing and see them in Wyoming
super stoked for some hawaii garbage. it probably conflicts with my wifeâs teaching schedule
Definitely Hawaii. Why(oming) would he hype the other state?
Wouldnât
Expecting fans to pull off a resort run in Mexico and Hawaii is a little social economically tone deaf.
I bet itâs Wyoming. Maybe this is Joelâs way of teasing the WC tour dates drop tomorrow.
Definitely, they should just stop touring
skiing options would probably have the band hyped (more than the fanbase probably)
