Were those his last shows?
The weekend after
Oh word. Where were those shows?
Anyway, congrats @DiabetesCOLE on the Morocco run. Glad you got to see your fav band in that capacity right before Kris left.
Well I fuck with beans in my chili so again, Texas card still revoked.
Arkansas, Dallas, Austin and NOLA. The last set was the Led Zep thing.
Oof
I honestly think thereâs a difference knowing Kris had surgery and the band had multiple drummers fill in during different tour schedules vs Kris is no longer in the band and you have to find a replacement.
I first saw UM in October 2003. Kris got longer drum solos and I feel it took some time before everything clicked. I would say the same goes for their new drummer. They will be the new drummer and receive hazing and shit talking, just like Kris got in his early years.
Not worried at all. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Onward & upward.
Agreed, I may go ahead and buy those Meijer Garden tickets now.
Yeah shouldâve been Jason Bonham
I believe they get a drummer we have never heard of vs a jamband drummer that has sit in with them/is in the scene.
Hope youâre right, donât think you are.
I wonder how this impacts their new album theyâve been working on.
This is wild news. I donât feel devastated but it really closes the book on a big chapter of my life. UM is what got me into jam and live improv in general. Pretty sure I wouldnât feel a sense of âsafetyâ and âcomfortâ at a jam show (or maybe really any show sometimes) if I hadnât gone to see Umphreyâs so many times.
All wonderful things change and shift. Itâs up to us to change and shift with them or change and shift in ways that feel good to us.
Drums woulda been tracked already I think, pretty sure they got that all done in December at the Metro. Would be a nice bonus for one more album with Myers on it, even it was just the stewage songs.
Curious to why you have this opinion?
I really hope they take that route though. Theres obviously those few drummers in the scene we all know could hang. Fro, Isaac, that Ben guy from Goose that played with them.
I feel like that route has a lot of downsides and limits them from the jump.
Hope @derblutenkat is right too. Give us a new face that breathes some fresh life (and can breathe through his nose lol)
Non serious answer: just pessimism of getting kbâd cuz itâs the easiest path.
Slightly more serious answer: i doubt that theyâd go ahead with announcing the separation mid tour without already having the replacement picked - combined with a doubt that theyâve been secretly hosting audition to find the type of drummer you described.
Man Iâd give it a go but my double bass work probably wouldnât cut it if Iâm being honest. I do know a guy named Jeff Howard in New York who honestly could pull it off though, heâs a huge UM (but also prog and classic rock) fan and late 20s. Kris is probably his favorite drummer too.
