“But, I don’t FUX with that.”
It has been that way since 2014. I am jaded, though, but only because they made me this way. I would say every show I saw from 2005-2013 had at least one moment that was worth listening back to, even the bad shows. Hell, most had a couple moments. I can legit count on a single hand the amount of times I have wanted to listen back to a UM show I saw live the last 6 years.
Edit: I still listen to a decent amount of old jams, too. Not as much as I use to, but I go on big kicks. I still love a lot of their songs, too, and a lot of the people. I still want them to be succesful and obviously love them for the impact they made on my life. If they are around and its not a major hassel, I still go and always have fun, but yea, it is just not the same. That is fine, though. I feel lucky that I got to see so many elite shows and got to follow this band for years throughout the peak of their career.
He did not see anyone, hes just a douche who constantly has to make himself feel important
This is overly harsh based on a handful of shows after a long lay off, and played under unusual circumstances. I would say that they were def on a bit of a cold stretch toward the end of the WC tour w/ some really poor Aspen shows, but we are coming off 2018-2019 which was a pretty fantastic stretch of UM.
This is based on a far longer time frame than this last run or 2020. I think there are like 2-3 songs from 2019 that I go back to. The RW from 10/23 is the only one I can really think of. I think the last Anthem show was a pretty good one, but nothing else comes to mind. I don’t think it’s harsh at all. Love UM, but the last few years can be placed in the bucket as @cryan024 has alluded to. And it’s gotten progressively “worse”. Like I said, UM has to do what they think is best for them as a band, their careers, and families. Unfortunately, that has come at a MAJOR cost. Quantity over quality these days it seems.
Not really sure what you’re looking for then. I’ll take 2019 UM over almost anything these days. Maybe if KB’s recs didn’t sound like shit I’d listen to more older stuff but I’ll take the higher sound quality and diversity in jams over a meandering 22 minute dance jam from ‘08. They are all much better musicians than they were 15 years ago and they changed the way of the big, monster jams almost 10 years ago. If you consider these last few years bad, I’d be curious to know what you thought the last good year was.
It’s ok to say you’re jaded, brother. It happens to the best of us.
Signed,
2019 fluff boi
He calls himself “the soundcaresser” but he was never really that great of a engineer/FOH mixer. Maybe he is actually worse than Sultan.
Sultan is way worse than KB
Also lol that Steven Nelson dude going full melt then using “jeez” when someone called him out. I’m chill bro why are you yelling.
I hear you. It’s all subjective obviously. This is just my opinion. And I don’t feel that I’m jaded. If they were playing the same way now as they were 2005-2014ish and my enthusiasm/interest was waning, I’d consider that being jaded. Since there has been kind of a paradigm shift in their shows, I just prefer the “older” stuff. They changed a little and so has my interest level (a little).
One thing I can certainly agree on is the sound quality! By far superior these days. Good transition back to the KB discussion
I think we might just have different definitions for jaded because that certainly sounds like a jaded vet to me.
Point me to a few jams from way back when that tickle your fancy. I might be able to find something recent that you might enjoy. I have today off so I might actually listen to UM for the first time in months (says the guy calling someone else jaded).
I heard he bought a soundboard for $7K with no experience
I have listened to a lot of the best of 2019 playlist, and I still dont think any of that comes close to any of my old favorite jams. There is definitely some great shit in there, though, no doubt. The consistency just isn’t there, and I honestly could give two shits about the sound boards being a little crisper or the band being tighter musicians. That said, I am totally down to let you try to convince me otherwise this weekend over some beers and yak.
lmao wow. I respect the commitment but that’s a bit much. Just get a shitty behringer for a few hundred to learn signal flow, EQing, gain staging and all that jazz before you spend thousands of dollars on one. Also he was in his early 20’s when he started mixing for UM. What kid in their early 20s has $7k to spend on anything? So that was probably daddy’s money anyways.
I think he was making a Sultan reference at KB’s expense.
Haha I was just making a deep cut Sultan reference
wooosh
I do remember seeing a video where he or Bayliss talked about how Bayliss basically had to show him what each fader did.
I don’t care enough about UM to try and convince people that they’re better or worse. I just like to call people jaded on the Internet. I’m biscuits fam this weekend.
