I would advise you all to check “soul tan” the solo project of the best up and coming jam guitarist ever.

Who does the bort hate more?

  • Sultan
  • Browning

Pretty disappointed by this poll. We laugh at sultan, KB is a direct reason the band we loved sux now.

I know we joke about this, but seriously, outside of giving the Seasons from IL a few spins (and mainly because it’s the first time the song had a jam), there is nothing from these four shows that I would ever go back and listen to. I haven’t listened to the circle shows yet, but it seems that these days, we are looking at a great jam (one that you’d go back and listen to a bunch) once every handful of shows or so (being VERY generous). You’d have that happen more times in one set years ago. I think I read people saying they liked the Phils, Cem walk II, and the Triple Wide from this weekend. Man, we must really be grasping at straws these days because none of these are even close to standout versions. It’s almost at the point, due to no standout jamming, where I’d just prefer a show with a setlist of my favorite standard UM tunes. Give me a set of standard fuzzy, mullet, ALB, GITV, Rocker II (tls), words, kimble, etc over a set of Kitchen, Phils, All in time like tunes where the jams are rushed and uninspired.

And I don’t feel this has anything to do with my tastes changing and having listened to a ton of UM over the years, and I’m certainly not jaded in any way. I still listen to a TON of UM, just not recent UM. Do you, UM. I still love you, but damn I miss listening to fresh UM shows and getting excited.

QFT.

I still really love this band, but it’s so rare that I even listen to a fresh show within a few days of the show at this point. I used to see a set list pop up, read the chatter/reviews, and anxiously await the recording. I would nearly always at least dig through the highlights right away.

To be fair, I don’t get too excited about any band’s live recordings anymore, aside from some archival release stuff. Live music is my favorite thing ever, but I’m just feeling like i’ve been less & less swept up by it all for awhile now.

This pandemic crap certainly hasn’t helped, but this trend had started for me well before that personally.

Probably the most silly part, is that I continue to pile up my personal collection of all my favorite bands’ recordings. I can’t help myself. I grab every UM, Phish, Biscuits, Panic, etc show, and some of them may never even get a full listen. I know my concert collecting issue has been a thing for 20+ years, but I still have a hard time toning it down.

Still grabbing 24bit versions of Dead shows on a nearly daily basis, some of which I may or may not ever give a spin. I’m sure that a huge part of it is the ease of getting shows these days. I remember having to search out shows, then having to spend 3 hours copying the tapes of each show. Now it comes into my computer in minutes.

Two different friends who are not big UM fans have sent me this already this morning, how is this making it’s way across the internet so fast? Haha

More of that hard social distancing

What I hate most about these FB screenshots is that stupid ass emoji of hugging a heart with anime eyes. Wtf is that?

It’s the “care” emoji. I think it’s fairly new.

And this is why Sultan is worse than KB. No one wants to hear your solo “show”. Aka just Sultan playing shitty um covers on his acoustic. Also he always has to subtly put in those “i know the band” tidbits with his “maybe we can get a celeb appearance. I’m serious”. That basically means he saw Stasik or someone and asked them to come to his party and they were like “lol sure thing bro”, and he took them seriously.
