Jason Isbell

That’s a great poster. Curious what you think of the show. I went last night

How was the show, looks like he is basically playing the same setlist every night with a few changes.

hiding in case James doesn’t want spoilees

I found it to be kinda on the slow side. Played essentially the entire new record, which is kinda slow, + maybe 5-6 others, half of which are also songs I’m very tired of (last of my kind, cover me up, vampires). Always love seeing him, but probably my least favorite Isbell show I’ve seen.

Should be perfect for my 84 year old mom’s first concert ever in August.

Now realizing this song is 100% about Justin Townes Earle.

Man those lyrics are brutal with that context. I had no idea. Thanks for sharing

Agree it was definitely on the slower side but I still loved it. Was only my second time seeing Isbell so didn’t have a whole lot to compare it to. Went in with the expectation that it would be extremely Weathervanes heavy, so that part was not too disappointing for me. Had a great time. Would have liked to see some tunes from Here We Rest or the 400 unit’s self titled album however.

Unfortunately since Southeastern came out he doesn’t bust out much before then. He used to regularly play Alabama Pines, Codeine and Go It Alone but those are now played just every once in a while. He also used to do Dress Blues and Tour of Duty somewhat frequently. Seems like he doesn’t go back before Here We Rest unless it’s his Rylan residency nowadays

I’m pretty indifferent on Isbell but this song cuts deep. I don’t know much about JTE other than Steve walking out on him as a toddler and by the time he returned they were both hooked on heroin but that final chorus is a beautiful nod to Steve/JTE. El Corazon is an album I grew up with so Fort Worth Blues perked my ears up

Iirc Codeine was an almost every show song until Nashville sound came out. Think i saw he dropped a Nashville pines last week. Love that song.

Yep it was pretty much a staple of the set for a while but has largely gone away the last 5 years, which is too bad. Just went back to look and my first show which was on the SMTF tour and damn, the set was great. A lot from that album, 6 from Southeastern, Alabama Pines, Codeine, Dress Blues, and 4 DBT tunes.

I’d love to see The Blue live sometime, but looks like it hasn’t been played since 2019, and only 4 times since 2012. Bummer.

This was my first show. I’d kill to see a set like that again. I didn’t know how good I had it.

I’m warming up to Weathervanes. I still think I’d rank it below the previous two.

Its annoying how setlist fm lists non-400 unit tracks as covers so it doesnt show what albums they’re from

Yeah this was my second (first was an opening set).

This drives me nuts lol. I like using the little album spread pie chart and it always sucks for the Isbell sets.

My one and only Isbell show

Elephant was solo acoustic and absolutely incredible.
