Has UM's popularity declined?

I’m a prime example in that I am about to skip 4 nights of UM in my area. I’m burnt out from the world in general and I’m burnt out on live music in general and I’m burnt out on UM. And I’m broke.

Feels like 10 years ago that I hit 30ish shows in the span of a year, but it was only 2018-2019 lol

Same as it’s always been.

this is wild that the band changes this in any way shape or form.

Not really at least in UMs case. They were just shy of selling out 5 nights at the Tabernacle in 2014, 3 nights at red rocks in 2017, and in general back around the middle of the decade their sales were consistently a lot better at similar venues, unless I’m remembering wildly incorrectly

Found my old avatar photo from the last Bort, but cannot figure out how to center the picture.

I just feel like the patheticness of doing blow regularly once you reach a certain age is amplified by choosing to follow a polarizing band that many people think of as another regurgitated derivative of the jamband scene. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating for Phish making blow any less pathetic, I’m just saying, it is a more suitable soundtrack. I’d rather be doing key bumps with the boys reminiscing about our glory years with decent Phish as the soundtrack (with the potential for magic still on any given night as noted by 2022’s tour) then trying to stay relevant and still doing blow in a crowd where my age stands out.

I’m disappointed. @mods please change @Andrusy’s avatar to the pic of the terrifying screaming goose

I mean who gives a fuck about what other people think.

So doing blow at a show with The Werks is lame but doing blow at Phish is better?

At the end of the day, your perspective is correct. But I still think doing blow regularly after you turn 35 (oh how convenient it is that I am 34) is not the best use of one’s money, time, or mileage on their heart. That being said, I’m on 60 mg of Adderall again and I’m definitely addicted to amphetamines and eat them like candy so I’m not one to talk I’m sure plenty of people think my behavior is pathetic lol.

Will be interesting to see if any of these bands become extinct due to quality of life.

The band thing just seems like a strange distinction to make

absolutely, this is the bottom line. It doesn’t matter how you spend your time when you’re racked.

we’re on the same page, I was just looking for more clarification as to what bands have to do with. the band on stage doesn’t really change the fact that you’re snorting an illegal vasoconstrictor that may or may not be cut with a deadly substance.

good thing I was in my early 20s when I did blow with Frasco.

It probably just was my Umphrey’s fandom feeling insecure in my choice of band to latch onto ride or die and wanting to project negativity on the Goose scene if I think about it a bit.

Yeah I mean I can imagine an old dead head saying the same shit about obsessed Phish fans

We are getting old, and we are the target age-group for UM/TDB. It would make sense they wane a bit. But the only reason UM/TDB got as big as they did originally was because of the phish hiatus.

Have never done blow or any powders and don’t like Goose so this checks out.

All I know is I tried crack before I ever saw Phish.

also, the bluegrass scene is ripe with 50+ year olds snorting coke off bowie knives.
