Has UM's popularity declined?

It’s a Shakespeare theater now. That place was so much fun.

As long as it’s not the eagles

It’s honestly nuts that Billy Strings opened for them in February 2020.

You could say the same for JRAD in 2016.

More people need to go to um shows again so billy tickets are easier to get.

If I recall correctly, those shows emptied out a little after Billy’s set. Nothing can help Billy tickets at this point.

Without having seen Goose nor listened to more than a minute of their music, if I was to speculate the pulse of the Goose scene it would be jamband scensters that like to do blow every weekend still in their 30s and are looking to mask their addiction through hanging out at the latest jam band buzz band’s shows where they can blend in with a crowd of fellow drug addicts. Basically, I think all jam band fans are drug addicts if listen to lower tier jambands in your free time. How else could you put up with that much noodling? Just go see Phish like an adult.

Yeah, because Phish fans are so mature and definitely not drug addicts

The point is I find it sadder to think about people 35-50 doing blow at Goose than at Phish. At least at Phish you are in your element with a bunch of other weirdos but at a Goose show you are just trying to catch some wave of past nostalgia through chasing the next big thing and doing blow at 35 or older at a Goose show just seems pretty pathetic to me. Doing blow every weekend past your 30s seems like a bad idea to me regardless. Not trying to rain on parades here but I just feel like older Goose fans need to branch out their musical tastes and do more acid than blow as they age.

Definitely no one on the bort in their thirty’s doing blow every weekend

Just to be honest with y’all, all jam bands popularity are declining. It’s true for small bands, mid tier bands, and upper tier bands like UM. The scene is homogenizing around just a couple of bands, and everyone else is obviously struggling. All the bands I’ve seen in the middle tier recently (Dopapod, Spafford, AQ, Twiddle) have all had smaller crowds the last few times I’ve seen them. Us small bands are totally screwed lol. And we see it most obviously with UM, moe, biscuits etc. If you’re not Goose, Phish, Pigeons or Billy right now your band is hurting

It’s all fun and games to speculate on UM and why their sales aren’t as good recently but I think it’s more to do with the scene in general rather than UM specifically.

Goose and Mister F used to play at oyster bars together and at the end of the night we’d split $300 cash

Compounded with the looming recession, rising gas prices, lack of disposable income, etc. and you have a recipe for a bad few years coming up. I can’t believe I’m about to drop like $300 on just tickets for four nights of Umphrey’s. Hell, $160 was the going rate for four nights last time I was on tour and that was 2017. I know these are special venues in Colorado but $75 tickets are quite the sticker shock these days. Everything is more expensive and as a result, there is less to go around. Did anyone hear about Bonnaroo consolidating their GA entry due to forecasted ticket sales? Too many festivals to go around too.

You sure about that?
