Fall Tour 2021

Standard Mantis in the rain?

I do like that Mantis from RR. Don’t remember liking anything else, but Bridgeless > Mants is great UM, IMO.

I saw a comment on VfJ yesterday that the BHam Uncommon “blew their mind.”

As far as picking which shows to pick, its super easy with Phish. You find the run that screams “party” late in tour, and you go, no matter where that run is and you are basically guaranteed to get at least one show that crushes, because Phish is all about energy, and by that point in tour they will be locked in enough to keep energy high, and the crowd will be extra amped because “party.”. Luckily this year you can just pick any run and do be guranteed at least one of the nights will be great, but definitely could not say that about a lot of the previous years.

2019 that was Alpine. 2020 that was supposed to be Atlantic City (still will be, but was the obvious choice based upon the original layout of the 2020 tour.) Vegas the obvious choice for fall. Phish does want to throw the fuck down for those big event weekends.

With the Biscuits you pretty much just have to accept night one is going to be garbage, but then the rest of the weekend will be a blast.

The problem with UM in the modern era is you really cant make that good of a judgement. If I want to see great UM, I need to take off lots of work and go tour and sit through a ton of shows I dont give a fuck about in hopes of getting a couple that stick. That just isn’t worth it to me, so I just go to the ones that are convinent and make the best of it. UM is not the band I see to experience greatness, and hasnt been for awhile, just to have a fun time with my friends and get surprised here and there.

This is how I’ve always felt about Phish. Almost always fun, never truly mind blowing. Diff strokes I suppose

Did you ever hit any of the 29-30th shows when you lived in NYC? Those are always pretty consistently good dates for them. If you did, and they did nothing for you, it probably is just a diff strokes thing.

I don’t think I did. I believe the only MSG show I caught was one of the Bakers Dozen

This is often 3.0 phish.

Unless you go to the runs that scream throw down late in tour. I’m not talking Dicks, either. It’s the big runs that happen before Dicks. Or just go anytime they play Vegas or a festival.

Which Bakers Dozen shows did you do?

My anecdotal experiences of seeing Phish live did not leave me wanting to see more. I did the 2 night Alpharetta runs in 2010 and 2011. 1/4 shows was good, and it was really a “had to be there” experience that didn’t hold up as well on tape. In the 2011 run, they repeated like a dozen songs from the year before, and failed to really capitalize on the night that had a mid-show storm break. I pretty much completely lost interest after that. Not sure the last time I listened to any 3.0 Phish.

Yes, and no. I hate floors and pavillions, they make me closterphobic. I get 30-40 dollar stands or behind the stage tickets and just go crush. Don’t really care which city it is. I don’t have an emotional connection to a venue or town, or the thought of just going cause its close. I just want to go to where ever it is I know I can go see my favorite band play well. If that is the Gorge, great. If that is bumfuck New York, great. Basically its worth it to me to hop in the flight to get blown away than to save a couple hundred dollars and throw a dart at the board.

They played Monday and Tuesday in 2019 for the NYE run

I’ve been to four this year and only said that for one I think

Chocolate. 7/28 I think?

Having to get in a plane to be at one of the couple of runs a tour that might generate the great jams is somewhat insane to me. Especially if it involves going to NY, NJ, or NV. Which is part of why I haven’t put much energy into 3.0 Phish.

But I also may have a minority opinion about flying to concerts being a questionable choice given the climate crisis.

Thankfully I live closer to cities they play now, and they are killing it right now.

With the massive Chalkdust? I remember really liking the CDT > You Sexy Thing, Mercury section of that show. Don’t remember thinking it was one of the better overall of the run tho.
