Couch Tour Thread

I just really don’t like Trey.

Jazz is Dead is totally an apples to oranges argument though. It’s just a different league

I think they’re comparable to a band like JRAD. Made up of musicians very familiar with the scene playing dead covers in almost their own original way.

I do absolutely love Jazz is Dead. I wish I liked Panic more, because Jimmy Herring is the fucking man

Wish he toured with The Invisible Whip more, that band is so fkn awesome.

If you can get over JB’s vocals Panic is sounding pretty good these days with Trucks driving the band and Jimmy just going off. Schools and JoJo are good enough to keep up and complete the sound. They certainly have their off nights and can sound very disjointed with jimmy just shredding nonstop just as default. So I guess at worst you see a band trying their hardest to keep up with jimmy leaving them in the dust. It turns into a 2.5 hour shred fest, which can get old fast.

PS their festival sets will always suck. Gotta go to an actual show to get results.

Yea, I have probably been to 20-30 non festival shows. I just get bored with the southern rock and every “jam” just sounding like the same extended guitar solo. Good band, for sure, and I always have fun, but they just have never been able to get me off.

@jwelsh8 you don’t like Tham!? Inconceivable!

The Bonnaroo (05-06?) Phil show with Trey, Mike and the Duo was by far the greatest GD related show I’ve ever seen. Also was a big fan of Phil when he had Steve Molitz on keys but that’s very far off from traditional Dead.

Y’all are tooooo easy

If they were both playing in the same city on the same night i would probably choose JRAD

100%.

The JRAD Anthem show is probably the best show I saw last year.

I’m not that big of a Dead fan but I enjoy a handful of their songs…probably like 15 or so of them, the rest are just meh to me. I’ve seen JRAD 4 or 5 times. Really enjoyed the first time they were at Holidaze, the following year at Holidaze was one of the most boring sets of music I’ve ever seen in my life. I was so primed and ready to enjoy it and to say it fell flat is being very generous.

I love THam, Marco, Russo and Dave though…what phenomenal musicians and I see them all individually or with their other bands whenever possible. I love the Duo…glad I caught their show at BBowl a few years ago when they briefly reunited. Also love Marco’s band as well as Ween and Brothers Past a ton.

LoL @ JRAD being better than the Grateful Dead. They literally only exist because of the magic that was Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter

I love JRAD, but to suggest they do much more than graze the beast’s belly is pretty laughable.

Tham smokes no doubt. But again we are ignoring the unpopular concept that song writing is an actual art. JRAD can emulate and imitate, but they don’t possess a fraction of the creativity the Grateful Dead did. That’s why they are a cover band…
