I watched RR1, RR2, and Vail and do feel like this past weekend was better UM than I have heard in a while. I’ll give the Plunger a listen. At this point, I found Vail to be the best show out of the four.
That said, compare 4 nights to a one-setter like this on a random weeknight…
Brah you need to forget about the future at the past’s expense for life is only living in the present tense!
D.U.M.B. streams gave me hope, Colorado gave me a good time…I’m not giving up on spending the majority of my disposable income on this band anytime soon. Gotta chase those milestones (show counts, venue counts, state counts, country counts) and keep seeing the people who shaped most of my adult life so far. I wanted to meet some Borters over the weekend but there were just too many 'Phreaks from my life to catch up with just had to live in the moment and make more memories with the people I’ve seen the most shows with at this point. It is pretty awesome to look to your left, look to your right, in front and behind ya for several rows and as far as the eye can see people you have toured with for 15+ years. Red Rocks was quite the reunion and I didn’t leave my row either night cause there were some many awesome people around me.
I’m glad you can continue to have such a positive outlook on UM. A good portion of my UM friends don’t bother to see them anymore for the same reason I haven’t seen them in 5 years. I still appreciate the UM community, specifically -bort, because there is so little of the BS associated with social media and internet forums here.
I also appreciate UM when they are good. It’s just difficult to eat chuck steak when you have eaten tenderloin.
Honestly if I were to go back to the first six or seven Linears I caught which happened to be the first six or seven times they played the song I don’t think any version at that point was the same. It started off as an instrumental in the middle of Phil’s at their first Belly Up show. Jake talks about how they were going to construct the song over winter tour I think right before they drop into Phil’s which threw me off but then made sense when they went into the jam. I’m a big fan of those lyrics, whatever they are. I wanted to get them tattooed on my shoulder and right bicep inside a Radiohead inspired Hail to the Thief like map of the east side of Detroit and Colorado, the two places I consider home. Still might get that done if I can ever set aside the money to do it proper.
