That Blue Echo is so fire. I also love the somewhat orchestrated Bridgeless that melts into some super blissful ambience. Great show, top 5 level SOTY most years but for 2019 it might not even be top 10.

Nope and as much as I love the show I gotta give the BK nod to 2/15 overall
Still think 2/16 is super underrated. The Mantis > C Walk > II sequence from Mantis is a real nice touch. Kabump has Bayliss channeling a little Scofield tone which is pretty rare these days. Mantis is the best jam of the run, plus Attachments, HBB w/ Beatles, and Triple Wide w/ Jake on keys…there is a lot of good shit in that show.
The Mantis segment is awesome as is that Attachments groove, but that’s all I really come back to from this show. I still think it was a great show but probably my least favorite of the 3 overall. Obviously we all know Plunger is my favorite jam of the run
I’m also a huge fan of the 1348. Lots of great moments. 2/16 is very good. Hell, the whole Brooklyn run is awesome!
Listened to 2/15 today. IMO 2/14 > 2/15, but not by much. 2/15 is absurd too (once you get past the first 30 minutes of the show, which is pretty average. That’s all it takes to make 2/14 better.) Obviously the Plunger has been discussed a lot. I actually think 8/15 is slightly better than this because the metal part of it is much more exploratory, but clearly this is a top 5 jam of 2019 as well.
What’s really nice and unexpected is Bad Friday. Ordinarily you would think Bad Friday+sitin=throwaway but that is absolutely not the case here. We go through the usual 2 minutes of fun with the horns but then things break down to this insistent Kris/Stasik/Bayliss groove that is so infectious the horns decide to sit out for a few minutes. Joel throws some great weird minor key lines over top, Jake has a nice breakdown, etc. - everyone contributes here, and then the horns come back in hard for the peak. Probably the best Bad Friday in the last 4 years.
The trainwreck in Maybe Someday at the beginning of the show is pretty hilarious. 2/14 Rocker 2 has some slipups too. It’s all good though because they were really pushing themselves this whole weekend.
I really like the I Wanna Be Your Lover from this show…super solid.
2/15 is definitely flubby but ultimately a little more satisfying. Night Nurse > Little Gift rips, glorious playing from Bayliss at the end of that LG jam.

Had a great time at Knoxville, though it dies off a little after AIT. AIT, Robot and Little Gift are all great though.

That was such a fun show. The crowd was awful though.
I love the groove they get into in the 2/14 Blecho, probably one of my most listened-to tracks from that whole weekend, and that’s saying something. I honestly don’t remember the sit in BF being that good but it’s probably because I haven’t listened to it much. I’ll check it out again. And the I Wanna Be Your Lover is reeeeally good, I mean I was bumping that shit in my car for weeks afterwards haha.
Honestly the last time I listened to it I was tempted to say that Mantis was the best thing to come out of the whole weekend :ducks cshore’s projectiles: Still gotta give 2/15 the nod though for night of the run. Crazy that 20+ years in, you can put the BBowl run up against any run from the band’s history and it’s on par with the best. I would say the same about the month of August, at least as good as any month in the band’s history.

Completely agree on the quality of both BBowl and August runs! For once, summer was the best part of last year IMO.

The Floor + lightning storm at the end of the night was pretty cool. Plus, the tree backdrop behind the stage made an interesting canvas for the light show.
I was distracted through most of the 2nd set by some dude with a backpack full of glow sticks, 1st set by a giant beach ball pummeling the crowd. Loved the Tribute, Kitchen, and Speak Up segment.
I agree, they need a 2nd round at this venue when all this pandemic stuff is over. Kinda hard to follow up the previous night with a heater though, even if Red Butte is fantastic.
Listened to 5/30 Birmingham today. LOVE that HBB! The first AIT in the 2nd set is pretty damned sweet, too.

The HBB is pretty damned awesome, also. There are a bunch of For Whom The Bell Tolls teases in it, which, interestingly, isn’t listed for the show on ATU.
Finally got around to 2/16/19 today. I agree that this is the weakest of the trio - a whole lot of improv that would have been better if they hadn’t aborted it early going on here. That being said, Mantis is every bit as good as Plunger from the previous night or Blue Echo/Ringo/1348 from night 1. It’s rare you get an out-of-this-world jam on all three nights of a 3-night run. Truly a run for the ages, not just of modern UM (though it encapsulates their modern sound/approach really well), but for all of UM.
A year ago tonight and tomorrow I saw one of the worst two-night runs of 2019 - Raleigh/Richmond, lol (I stand by Richmond set 1 being great though). That being said, I’d kill to see even that run again in our current pandemic state

Yeah that run wasn’t great. The Raleigh show was terrible. I loved the Richmond show tbh. The first set was fantastic and I still think the Attachments in the second set was great. Then a Booty Wax -> AiT encore. Show was so much fun.
Had a fucking blast at this run. Would take it again in a heartbeat.
