3/29 IDM - definitely up in the top 10-20 jams of the year. Best jam in a show absolutely packed with huge jams, and easily the best version of this song ever. Love how it slowly morphs from one glitchy dance section to the next, takes a weird turn around the halfway mark and starts rocketing towards a huge peak.
3/30 Spires - Not JOTY material but a solid 9 minutes of good unique improv. The first half in particular is awesome. I’ve said this before but it reminds me of the South Park theme song with Bayliss playing these wonky diminished chords, Jake chirping away at funky mini chords and Farag going nuts accenting both of them. After that section peaks it cuts to a cool just guitar section that gives way to this really pretty slow groove and a really nice cool down into Half Delayed. Such a great way to open a show.
3/10 Fir - This jam is strange because nobody seems to ever talk about it. But it is a 27 minute Fir with a big long dance jam. I remember reading people thought it was a little too meandering in the second half but I think that only lasts for about a minute before they regain their focus and start slamming the funky dance vibe again
The trio of It Doesn’t Matters from 2/2, 2/21 and 3/29 are all some of my fav jams of 2019. The desert blues groove of the 2/2 version just does not get old.
The entire 3/30 show has aged really well for me. I wasn’t incredibly thrilled with it at the time due to the monster 3/29, but overall it’s a really good listen start to finish.
I was so jaded during 3/30 lol. I was basically just upset that for a 5 song second set, every jam was exactly what you’d expect from each song. It was a fun time for sure and a high energy crowd but it definitely pales in comparison to 3/29 in terms of highlights
I agree with the love for 2019 in general. Most consistent year since 2011 IMO.
Also agree with all of the love for 8/29, such a great show. I think the first set is right there with the second set and that is saying something.
Brooklyn Mantis would get my vote for JOTY if I had to choose one. I find myself going back to that one (and a laundry list of other 2019 jams) quite a bit.
I’ll have to get back to you on 8/15. I haven’t heard this one yet, but I am getting that show this weekend as one of my father’s day gifts. I listened to the 2/15 Plunger on LMA thanks to Ben’s AUD. I was disappointed to see that there was no 8/15 AUD.
I’m getting a 2nd UM show for father’s day. I’m considering 2/2 or 2/15…undecided as of now.
The subscription does me no good since my work blocks it. With my work schedule being what it is, my home time consists of sleep and family time, with a little Borting squeezed in since work blocks the new Bort as well!
