Worst Encores You've Seen

I was gonna say, I feel like they all kinda suck. I have seen a few great ones, but the vast majority are standard town.

None that I can recall except with one set shows.

Yeah, that’s kinda what I was thinking. Other than like festy sets, I’ve never seen a standard 2 set UM show with no encore. Wonder if its ever been done?

7/1/11 - Standalone Africa. The rest of the show smoked though.

Yeah that was the third night of the run after Prince died. Loudest crowd I’ve ever heard at First Ave.

There was also a double encore at 11/9/05 in Des Moines, but that was a weeknight show with 200 people at a huge venue.

Most UM encores suck. Much better thread would be best encores you’ve seen.
Most fun I’ve caught:
4/30/05 BLBC, Synco, Waiting Room at 7am during jazz fest
4/28/12 BG show: 2 dips, WBG, Waiting Room
Best jam:
7/19/06: Nemo, WWS (so good)

3/18/12 had a legit double encore. Probably the best UM show I’ve ever seen.

11.19.2005 Irving Plaza, New York, NY, USA

Set 1: Miss Tinkle’s Overture, The Bottom Half, Kabump > Hajimemashite, Wild Side, Higgins, Ain’t No Sunshine[1], 2nd Self, Nopener

Set 2: All In Time[2], Robot World[3] > Walletsworth[4], Red, In The Kitchen[5], Believe the Lie

Encore: The Weight[6], Goin’ Down Slow[7]

2nd Encore: Hurt Bird Bath

[1] with Ugochi Nwaogwugwu on vocals
[2] with The Spirit of Radio (Rush) tease
[3] ended with Norwegian Wood (The Beatles) jam
[4] with The Woody Woodpecker theme (George Tibbles and Ramey Idriss) tease
[5] began with Call to the Post tease
[6] with Huey Lewis on harmonica and vocals and Jonathan Levine on percussion
[7] debut, St. Louis Jimmy Oden; with Huey Lewis on harmonica and vocals

the crowd was filing out. i was on the stairs from the balcony to the floor when they came back out for HBB. i was in a line with a ton of people who were on their way out of the venue. who knows how many people left and had no idea HBB was goin’ on

Oh those big city nights

God I wish I could one set that looked like either of those sets. I just need to stop seeing shows in Chicago.

Hauntlanta double encore was pretty sweet too

4/5/08 Jajunk is probably my favorite UM encore I have seen.

I’ve seen Trenchtown Rock in the encore slot twice.

Granted once was the epic 3.8.02 encore…

The night before featured 3 encores. How many times has that happened?

4/17/09: standalone “radio edit” Spires

My first show ended with a 5-minute BLBC. I would hate that today, but of course then I didn’t know any better.

My second show ended with a 17-minute All In Time. That was much better.

The 2002 tour calendar still amazes me…Man, they covered some miles…

I was looking at the Aspen setlists today and all three nights this year had a cover as part of the encore. I would have been annoyed by the third night if I dropped all that money and that was the result. When I went to the Belly Up in 2010, tickets were $30 so Hollywood Nights wasn’t that bad.

Out of 22 Belly Up shows, half featured covers in the encore if I counted right. Curious whats the % overall.

$50 for a cover encore? That’s too much, man!
