It’s why I only listen to prog. Based on my boy Bach which is white as it gets. I feel zero guilt. And my ears aren’t getting assaulted by a point of personal privilege.
gotchya. I’m genuinely curious.
I agree with your post but I also think it’s inching towards a “trying too hard to be woke” stance.
Fuck yeah we beat racism out here. Such a foreign concept it doesn’t even register and it appears we’re sheltered to others.
I’m assuming that’s the point you were trying to make.
I mean we can all agree this country was built off the backs of black slaves, why is it so much harder to admit the same with music? It’s not wokeism, it’s simply going back and seeing 95% of musical genres were influenced by black music.
Why are you so defensive bro?
I know you are stirring the pot, but after talking to some folks in oakland and in SF, racism is alive and well out there. Tech culture perpetuates inequality in the same way other industries (legal, medical, finance, defense) do
I know. There’s a reason D&I is a hot topic in the industry out here.
People don’t like when you peel back the onion of racism in America
Unfortunately its not enough. Wealth redistribution and reparations need to be a hot topic as well. Before people start getting their heads cut off
If youre doing anything outside of breathing, chances are you are doing something to offend someone. Simple solutions? KYS. Only way to fully check your privilege.
Fuck you dude some people don’t have the physical ability to off themselves.
While offensiveness is something to consider, i think the conversation should be more focused around oppressiveness
I’ve yet to see one valid rebuttal to my points other than defensive denial and stirring the pot
Also 311 does not fux, at least we can all agree on that besides @solvethebox
Dont worry, i believe in ugly and frail peoples freedom to KTS, too. If anything they have even more reason than us good looking folks.
Reggae is simpler so there’s more room for fighting racism
Hey you were the one that assumed I meant white rock music when I pointed out that 60s music rivaled reggae as the most politically and socially active music. This is on you, comrade.
like how am I supposed to feel listening to an Offspring album? that shit is white as fuck so I’m just not sure how to
70% of my listening is the blues. Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Son House, Elmore James, Sonny Boy… I understand the foundation of other genres being rooted in music that wasn’t theirs but to me it’s just all music.
When I put on a Muddy Waters album I am listening to music, not black-music. That’s not to marginalize the struggles of African Americans in the Mississippi delta in the early 1900s or the influence of their music, that’s just me listening to music.
Maybe that makes me racist idk
genuinely curious here, not trying to troll or start shit or poke any bears.
