Itās hard to find a more politically and socially impactful genre of music. Hip hop is one of the few I can think of. Plus itās just yet another genre white people stole, watered down and made worse.
The music of the late 60s defined an entire generation that defied politics and societal norms. People like to hate on 'em now, but they did some cool stuff back then.
At one point every genre of music was politically important. The various classical genres included.

Sorry but comparing American rock and roll and their privileged viewpoint on politics pales in comparison to reggae and how they literally fought the apartheid and racism in Jamaica.

True, but genres like reggae and hip hop were created out of the context of living in a socially and politically disadvantaged world and they used music to stand against what was forced on them since birth and to inform others of what they have lived through. Other genres like classic rock were politically engaged but they built their careers and influences off the backs of the music that came from those same disadvantaged people, but then they used their music to positively influence politics
Sam Cooke, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, and countless others had privileged viewpoints? Hot fuckinā take, bro.

I said American rock and roll bro. Re-read the sentence. Obviously any sort of Black American Music comes from the same roots of living through the political disadvantages vs having a privileged scope of society and politics like most of American rock and roll did.

Nothing wrong with white people making music my point is that (just like everything else in this country) the music was built off the backs of black Americans. If weāre going to appropriate their music we need to at least acknowledge these facts and pay respect and $$ whenever we can.
