UMBowl 2020

Yup, bingo. They did it at UMBowl II

Please not that.

I’d be happy with All Request, S2, CYOA, and All Night Wrong. I think I’m in the minority here, but I’m not too into Raw Stewage.

Remind me what the difference between S2 and Raw Stewage are. The former is random, sometimes abstract fan-submitted themes where as Raw is just pure improv, right?

raw stewage is where we got mad love, upward, etc. The band remakes old jams.

S2 is the fan submitted abstract improv ideas.

So it’s taking repeated stews and expanding upon them?

IIRC for every raw stewage there was a ballot for old jams. Fans voted for the 3.17.13 Kitchen and 9.23.11 Billy and UM combined them to create Gents

It’s all for V4J chads who would rather their favorite jamband capture 30% of the magic of old jams instead of try something new.

It used to be just a recreation of the jams the first few times. Examples such as Den, Final Word, Liberty Echo. They would replay the jam as close as possible. Starting with UMBowl 5 they started creating new “songs” out of multiple older jams, using them as lego pieces. Think Remind Me, Gents, Mad Love, Draconian, etc.

Got it, this all sounds familiar. Thanks bros

Fuck yes to special teams. I want to hear in violation of yes so bad.

I just fear that special teams leads to too many dumb drum jams.

Don’t forget Rocktopus, brah.

Its Umbowl who cares if there is a drum jam?

IVOY is the only reason for special teams. Also maybe nopener. IIRC they brought Mirro out for it once which was cool.

I’m really starting to dislike Raw Stewage. My picks would be Improv, S2, CYOA, All Request.

I wish we could have “elite” CYOA only for jaded vets so 3x doesn’t get voted in over LMS ever again.

I don’t think we need any more Raw Stewage songs in rotation, plus they’ve already tapped most of the classic jams for it that were on ballots over the years. I think it’s time to move on from it.

Agreed. I liked it as a way to hear some more composed/interesting old jams once or twice, but now that these songs have been in the rotation for damn near a decade I’m pretty sick of them. That being said, I actually enjoy a few of them (Draco, Breaker, first half of Remind Me)

Nemo over FF/Fuzz during the NYE was brutal. Jam was good though.

Maybe I’m crazy but gimme Nemo over the Fuzz any day. Tougher call on FF since that can produce some amazing jams, but composition wise I prefer Nemo to that as well. I love The Fuzz but I can’t remember the last time there was a truly noteworthy version.

The selections were listed as “with improv” so Fuzz would’ve been guaranteed to have a jam. Whether or not the jam was going to be the same regardless of which tune was selected is unknown. But hey different strokes I guess.

I voted Nemo. Been years since I’ve seen them play it, and I had just seen them play FF and Fuzz at the last run I was at. However, I did miss the “with improv” part of the poll, so I see where you’re coming from with the Fuzz. Tough pick for me.

Really wanted Red Tape over Mantis, too. They play Mantis enough.
