Get Browning to make it an NFT. Or 9/13/08.
Almost forgot about yesterday’s anniversary. That Barrymore show is so hot!!
Happy BDay to one of the greatest UM segments ever
2008/06/05 - The Intersection - Grand Rapids, MI Set 1: Smell the Mitten, Intentions Clear[1] -> Syncopated Strangers[2], 40’s Theme > Meeting in the Aisle > 40’s Theme Set 2: Ringo > Robot World -> Thin Air, Waist Down, Padgett’s Profile, The Fuzz > Ringo Encore: Mullet (Over) [1] with Syncopated Strangers teases [2] with The Triple Wide tease in intro, and with The Woody Woodpecker Song (Tibbles/Idriss) tease
Lol, I forgot about Waist Down. Always skipped that when listening to this show.
Waist Down
I had the pleasure of catching that musical gem multiple times in 2008.
Didnt it become another newer song?
I believe a section was used in Maybe Someday
can’t find my daily schedule to try and figure out my exact pathing, but i know that 20 years ago today i saw all of wilco, some bob dylan, some yonder, some ani difranco, some north mississippi allstars, most (all?) of the string cheese set.
bummed to have missed praxis, yo la tengo, gillian welch .
but best of all, that god damn umphreys set. i was 150 feet back, dead center and had the time of my life.
@solvethebox wasn’t this your first show? Or was that 2005 roo?
iirc, he was at that roo, but might not have caught the um set.
um was playing against vida blue and praxis
Yep that’s it. I was at praxis in 04, first UM was roo 05
That Bob Dylan show was one of the worst things I’ve ever witnessed. I remember only “playing” a keyboard and it was not audibly plugged in.
I stumbled past that praxis show trying to find a bathroom at just the right time for it to scare the shit out of super fucked up ass.
i had only seen dylan once prior to that (11/5/99, with phil and friends, a few days after kimock got the boot) and that show was mostly enjoyable. my expectations were high enough to be completely dissapointed.
for every ok dylan show, he has a half dozen horseshit concerts
God, I was peaking so hard during the moe. band switch. Last good time I had at a Bonnaroo!
BLBC into Prowler is God tier shit
and then Prowler > Glory? Fire
CarpetCrawler:Anyways, 22 year anniversary bump to a great pair of shows
CarpetCrawler:With all the amazing shows that UM has played at Summerfest, this one gets lost in the shuffle a bit.
This was a really fun show, as was the following night at the Terrace in Madison…
June 27, 2002 Umphrey’s McGee Henry Maier Festival Park — Milwaukee, WI, USA
Set 1: Dump City, The Haunt > When the World Is Running Down You Make the Best of What’s Still Around > The Fussy Dutchman, Ringo > The Triple Wide > Tribute to the Spinal Shaft > Moogasauras Rex > Anchor Drops, The Crooked One, Phil’s Farm > Walletsworth, Dr. Feelgood > The Fuzz, August > Pay the Snucka[1]
Encore: Last Man Swerving
Footnotes:
[1] part III onlyNight 2 of my 2nd ever back to back UM show experience, the 1st being 3/22-3/23/2002.
The Summerfest set was amazing, but this one has the edge by a slight margin. This was my 3rd time seeing music at the Terrace, with the 1st being MMW a night or two before the first Phish show at Alpine in ‘96. Absolutely beautiful night on the Madison lakefront, and a far more loose and exploratory show in general. Just top shelf early Umphrey’s!
June 28, 2002 Umphrey’s McGee The Terrace, University Of Wisconsin — Madison, WI,USA
Set 1: Sociable Jimmy, White Man’s Moccasins > Q*Bert, Last Call > Tomorrow Never Knows > Gesture Under a Mitten, Utopian Fir[1] > In Violation of Yes[2]
Set 2: Push the Pig > Resolution > Blue Echo > Andy’s Last Beer, Prowler > Hajimemashite > Padgett’s Profile, Example 1[3] > Glory[4], Miss Gradenko
Footnotes:
[1] with Sweet Child O’ Mine (Guns N’ Roses) and Ain’t Talkin’ 'bout Love (Van Halen) teases
[2] with Thunderstruck (AC/DC) tease
[3] during the middle of the song, Brendan’s mic had some feedback problems; to help solve the problem the band went into a long (vocal) jam
[4] ended with Eminence Front (The Who) chorus and jam
