He was always extremely friendly to my wife, and always honored her song requests; I believe he had a bit of a “mom crush” on her, can’t say as I blame him. she was a very special lady and i miss her dearly. Cancer sucks, kids.
15 years since their first Delaware show. Not a bad one for Mantis ter. OB had an interesting little jam built around a spooky BB riff, LMS is likely on the best versions list, Pig had a little jam that was sort of atypical. I don’t mind getting standardtown songs if they are WMM, Morning Song, Words, EOTR, and Thin Air, though I recall being sort of sick of Words at the time. Pretty sure this is the only time I’ve seen them play the Spires coda, too. All in all a solid 6.5/10, TMSNEI well-played but not outstanding 2009 show.
That’s such a bizarre looking 2nd set in the best way possible. Really the whole show has great song selection for my tastes, I’ll need to spin this one.

One the best encores I’ve listened to. Great MO and ITK>Higgins is top tier as well.
Thanks for the reminder. Such fond memories… This was the second of two consecutive birthday shows for me at the Pageant. I’d seen Joel in front of the venue earlier in the day and requested a Senor Mouse for my birthday, but was denied. Since it was also Kris’ birthday, my request took a back seat to Black Hole sun, which was ok by me. I did get a friendly shout-out, however, just prior to the encore, which was tracked out for posterity by St. Louis taper Manley Feinberg: Happy Birthday to Josh | 2008-04-05 | Umphrey's McGee | Relisten
This one isn’t a particularly amazing show, but it’s a very great memory. I took my cousin Ed to this show, who’s one of my favorite people in the world. He’s an amazing person, but doesn’t get out as much as he should due to some social anxiety. He loved the show and the experience, but when the Zonkey tune dropped at the end he was giddy as fuck. He loves Marley & Talking Heads, so it couldn’t have been a more perfect ending.
Footnotes:
[1] with For Whom the Bell Tolls (Metallica) teases
[2] with Entrance of the Gladiators (Julius FuÄÃk) tease
[3] unfinished
[4] with 25 or 6 to 4 (Chicago) jam and Babe I’m Gonna Leave You (Led Zeppelin) quotes
