Today in Umphrey's McGee History

This Columbus show is a monster, but being that it’s seated right between the Grand Rapids & Ann Arbor shows, it has never been my go to of the run. The 1st set is huge, with the always beautiful EOTR to open, into a giant DBK that clocks In well over 30+ mns with a Haji sandwiched in it. Then the return of Wappy was a very special moment for sure. Set 2 has some great stuff as well, but this show has always been about that 1st set, IMHO. This show was really great to be in attendance for, but for me it always gets overshadowed by the next night. Really glad we made the effort, as we knew quite a few people who skipped the long out of the way drive, and just stayed in Michigan between the GR & Ann Arbor shows.

I am still a bit disappointed I missed the MIshawaka Wappy so the Columbus Wappy remains my favorite seen. It is definitely an atypical Wappy jam.

I’ve gotta check this return of the Wappy out as it’s been awhile. Favorite Wappy seen for me is 9/16/11. Very atypical major key bliss jam into a mix of fusion metal dance with some ridiculous Jake. Yes there’s a Glide jam but it’s such a blistering stretch of music it’s right up there with the best Wappys ever.

Today marks the 19 year anniversary of my 1st true UM show. I had seen them a few times before, but those shows were never my focus, being that they were an opening spot for my buddy’s band & then 2 post Phish show sets at Dead Creek campground. This show was the 1st time I ‘went to see’ UM, and it permanently changed my concert going life for good. From the 1st notes of Spinal Shaft, I was floored & never looked back.

This 3rd day/night of the 11-29 through 12-1 run was a truly special way to top off 2007. The NYE run had some good stuff for sure, but these 2 shows in Ann Arbor were super fun. The Border’s set was wild, as we had walked in expecting an all acoustic set, being that it was in a bookstore. We were pleasantly surprised when we saw the amps & Pony’s bass. That was so much fun, but was only the start of the amazing day/night. The show that night was top tier for sure. A very special evening, which I will always remember very fondly!

Love that Ann Arbor show

IMO this show is the best of that run. TBH, SF1, Wally, Flippy Floppy jams bring the heat.

12/1 is also pretty great tho…that Fir > Kitchen > Fir is incredible

I wonder how many people would list this show as the one, or one of the shows that helped them “get it”? Definitely me.

It’s up there for sure. Probably one of my first most listened to shows.

raises hand

Although I bet I haven’t listened to this show in 8 years

Definitely used to spin this show all the time back when I had to load CDs into my car for music.

Dive bar jukebox teases show. Must have listened to the radio the whole way to the show in their shitty van or some shit.

BTW…did we ever find out who, “purchased” that van? Wasn’t it a package for one of the album releases? V curious if someone actually snagged that for some idiotic reason.

I definitely listened to that ATL show a ton. One of my most listened to non-attended shows for sure…

Looks like you’re judging based on the setlist. There are a lot of teases, as is common in pretty much any 2004-05 show, but most of them are brief (other than the Norweigan Wood and Kashmir parts of Front Porch) and are woven pretty well between some killer improv/jamming.

I have listened to the show. Just realized how poppy the teases were in just reviewing it earlier, though
