Summer Camp 2023

EDM getting way too big for drug band festivals is wonderful news

Totally agree. If it was Friday/Saturday night focused on UM and moe. with fewer people I would at least consider it.

Literally just the Moonshine Stage.

Bringing it back to an UM/Moe. Fest with maybe a few other bands would likely get me back.

So… how much does a band get paid doing a fest like this? My assumption is that they rely on merchandise sales for a good portion of their payday, and you get a certain percentage of ticket money based on when your playing.

I’d love to go back for a smaller UM/moe. centered fest, but to be honest a big selling point of scamp is knowing I’m going to have a stacked lineup that will keep me more than entertained for 16 hours a day. Much less, and I’m not sure I’m going to be convinced to drive 28 hours round trip to exist in the mud and humidity for a weekend. If it’s just EDM and the big legacy classic rock headlining artist they cut out and there are still 2-3 stages with a ton of bands then I’m probably in for one more year. Summer camp is home, but I’m equally excited for it and dreading it this year. It’s exhausting. Am I no longer a child?

Summary

I’m projecting

Sounds awesome. The vibe back when I first started going in '04 was so chill. Place was tiny and empty. All for it going back to that.

That said, cant wait for next weekend.

I’d be curious to see attendance by year. I wonder which year was the biggest.

Who was the biggest headliner of the last ten years? There was a couple bigger than TAB iirc. Whatever year those headliners were would be my guess. Did Pretty Lights ever headline?

Whenever bassnecter played it was always significantly fuller. I don’t think TAB is a much bigger draw than the other tier 3 drug bands

That was the year with Zac Brown Band on Sunday, probably the most packed I’ve seen it out of 7 scamps. Whichever year had a Steve Miller band was pretty full as well.

'14 then, I can’t believe its been 9 years since I’ve been. This would probably get us back

30k was biggest crowd. Cant remember the year. Maybe 2014-2015. Remember all the crew being super pumped about it the last night in the VIP bar.

My first year ('04) was about 4-5k and there was only a couple stages. All the big bands played Moonshine.

I didnt go last year, but apparently it was only like 12-15k.

Yeah. Last year there was still room for like a 20-person group to go set up camp in the middle of GA woods on late afternoon Friday.

Hardly any tents outside of the trees in the VIP field. It was real weird. Sunday felt normal.

So if anybody is trekking through Illinois for Scamp, and you find yourself passing through/past Marseilles or Ottawa Illinois while you’re on 80, HMU. I can’t do the fest but I’m all for any kind of quick Bort meetup/sesh. Hell, I’m only an hour away and might be convinced to try and sneak my @ass into Scamp lol. Just throwing it out there.

I don’t have to drive all the way to bumfuck illinois to tell you that you should sneak into summer camp. Do it.
