Havenāt seen the Bort this salty about Umphreyās since Mantis Tour. We need to hurry up and get back to 80+ shows again so the ādudsā donāt stand out so much. If we had more soundboards to digest we wouldnāt be so critical of the ones we do have.

Mike, my problem is twofold. I donāt really like their new(er) material and their live shows are far less exploratory when you and I jumped onboard in 2007ish.
Mantis Tour was explainable since they were playing new material live for the first time. Even then, they still had their great moments. Summer of 2010 into Fall of 2011 produced some of my favorite UM improv actually.
That said, listen to Indy from a couple of weeks ago and Jake seemed bored, like he was simply noodling over everything. And when they started to find a groove, it was short-lived.

Damn BF shooting his shot for NFTs is just showing how UM cringiness is rubbing off on him. Itās not fun to be a fan right now and everything the band does just seems so pitiful.
I know Iām not saying anything ground breaking but just to get off my chest that my favorite band is trying to make me not like them. It sucks. Iāll stick with phish and panic for the meantime. When you know how high the ceiling can be, everything that doesnāt get close just blows. Sad!

I find it way more sad and cringey that a guy who turns on lights at show asking if anyone is interested in purchasing his work effects how you feel about the way a band plays.
I use UM as an outlet to see my friends who Iāve made from seeing this band over the years. If they play well like they did early 2019, thatās cool. If they āsuckā like they do now, thatās cool too. Itās funny to me that people who donāt even like the band care so much about how they play.
If you want real improv, go listen to squeaky feet.

The band has been playing OK this year. I think they have sounded very predictable for the past few months but what rubs people the wrong way is that everything is a cash grab now, the entire band and everything they do seems contrived and commoditized.

I am tearing through summer 09 shows and loving it. But have never caught them live and donāt wanna be a poser. But yes
