Iâm optimistic about Scotty with UM. His years with dopapod are some of their best as far as the jams go. I think weâll see some new vibes in the improv and maybe more patience too

You also have no idea what the background process was. They also had to fill in immediately, instead of allowing a long process.

Didnât Scotty play with them at Mishawaka 2023 at least for part of a set? They had 20+ drummers take a whack at it a few years ago. I think they have a good idea of whoâs gonna work short term.

The folks who love them endlessly wont care regardless though so it just looks like they are taking the easy route to avoid pausing

They didnât say this was final, but if they were inclined to have open auditions (a la how they did when Mirro was leaving or what Primus just did), I would think theyâd mention it. âDetails on the auditioning process to find a new permanent drummer will be forthcoming.â Not hard to say if that was actually the plan, but I donât think it is.

I donât think thatâs info theyâre really concerned with giving us or something fans need to know. They answered the pressing question of whatâs happening for the announced shows this year.

My guess: the remainder of this year is effectively Scottyâs audition and they expect it to work. But I think they are doing a disservice to themselves by not searching more broadly.
