That said, what MRS actually is right now is like a decade shelved memory - would just be nice to see it dusted off on occasion (couple times/year?)

I did my first 4 years of seeing the band seeing their New Years shows too…only have been to one since when they played at the Roxy a couple years ago. I did catch 12/29 and 12/30 in 2013 though…glad I did because that 1-Up show smoked.

I was very fortunate in the NYE luck, as it was just so easy living an little over an hour away from where they’d play their shows/runs when I got swept up. I caught 2001-2010 in Chicago, then ‘15 (in Denver) ‘16 (Chi)….also caught a single night (my bday) of ‘22.

There’s some GOAT songs from those earlier Chicago NYE runs where the band is acknowledging Joel’s dad, particularly how hard he’s getting down on the air-keyboards.

I really love both Unevolved and Concessions but wonder how much shelf life they’ll have as set list regulars if they remain near 20+ minutes of almost all composition. There are definitely some parts within each song where other songs can be sandwiched into them to break it up a little bit. Very interested to see what comes of these tunes + new record.
Actually really looking forward to this new album. They sounded great this week after playing a ton of music with the shows/ recording during the day. Going to stream the NYE run @wiscomtonslacker cabin up north all week.

2024 has a strong collection of 1 set shows. While I personally thought they were all well done, the 12/12 Blue Note show was excellent. Feeling real good about the NYE run.
