Sometimes, less is more. A not so overproduced stream goes a long way - seems more like you’re watching a show vs a production. Idk, makes it feel more natural imho
The Hall of Fame 2023 hasn’t gotten much discussion on here and I finally skimmed through it this week. This is…not their strongest release at all. But I’m very happy that Huntsville Staircase and Hiccup and Chattanooga Tinkle’s saw wide release. All of them deserve it. That was a really nice run.
It’s not an awful listen but i feel like there was some real good shit from the west coast runs they missed out on, and there’s no reason to put a Floyd cover on here IMO
There’s a really fucking killer abitw from 2017 (was it Jake less run?)
But yeah the the Portnoy version from this year doesn’t really do it for me

I’ve relistened to this so many times. My favorite UM show I’ve attended in the last 5 years.

I was also in the room for that Richmond show in 2017! I’ve seen a couple shows better than 1/20/17 in recent memory but it definitely is a very good, complete show that has excellent flow and hits lots of different styles of songs and improv. ABITW is the highlight for sure - a very intense version considering world events that day. Draconian getting its first true standout jam in the 1st set is probably my 2nd favorite part of the show.
