Weird jam in that ringo

I somehow never listened to this, even it being on a HOF album. Full blast off.

It was also around 150 degrees in the Can-O-Pee club that night IIRC.

Oh it’s so good

Umphreys needs to play Hawaii next. Can get round trip for the fall rn for under $200. GITP!

Also, TQ Funeral aka Amble On is underrated.

From Ben Factor:

Hello dear ones -
Just wanted to drop by and share a few thoughts on the exciting new chapter that begins this weekend with the introduction of Chris Ericson as our new FOH audio engineer.

This will be obvious quite soon - But Chris is a badass motherfucker and I am incredibly stoked and ready to hear my favorite band through a new set of ears, gear and mixing philosophy.

We have worked together for years; He was out with Spafford with me, but that gig barely scratches the surface of his accolades. He’s been in the Chicago audio scene for as long as the band has existed, working with our crew and audio vendor for the last 20 years. Some other audio highlights go from Alan Parsons to Lauryn Hill to Pat Metheny all the way back to G-Eazy. He’s got range and very musical sensibilities. He’s also been tech-ing for Kris and Joel for the last 3 years, and let’s just say that is not an easy gig lmfao.

Having been the person to step in after Waful, a public facing and beloved member of the UM world, I feel inclined to encourage you all to welcome Chris in with the same openness, patience and positivity that you afforded me in my first chunk of time with the band.

I know change can be uncomfortable, especially when it’s been 1000-something shows with Mitchell at the helm, but I am quite confident this is going to be an excellent transition. UM is 26 years into their career, and IMO, injecting some fresh energy into the mix (ha) only makes the experience more exciting and worth paying attention to.

TLDR: Be nice, be patient and get ready for some fat ass drum sounds and crisp high end on both the recordings and in the room. It’s gonna be sweet.

Ben is such a nice fella. Waful would’ve bitched about how sore his back was from carrying the band all these years. Now they are bringing some noob in who gets to ride on the bands bus.

I will never forget seeing Waful two rows infront of me at Dicks (standing) right after backing out of those shows

Not going to hold that against him though. If i was already on my way out of a job and had a chance to go do something i love with my friends i am not going to pretend like i might not do the same

Well said. Kind of funny it even has to be said to not be an asshole but we know how jam fans can be.

Didn’t really think about the fact that I’ll be seeing the first show post Mitchell on Thursday. Curious to see if there are noticeable differences right out the gate.

I remember the boards sounded pretty rough when Mitchell first started. Maybe there will be less of a transition this time since the new guy was already on the crew.

Definitely will be. Maybe not earth shattering differences but hes going to have his own gear (or rather, the lack of what Mitchell was using) and his own ears. There was definitely an immediate noticeable difference from when Mitchell took over from Browning.

Phish also comes to mind when they came back in ‘09, but literally everything about the crew had changed from ‘04 departure to ‘09 reunion. I remember listening to boards and hearing vocal harmonies so much more pronounced. Same with some instruments as well.

Can’t wait to cross my arms by the board and give him some pointers on Thursday

Umphreys is getting a lot of old spafford members. Idk if that’s a good or bad thing considering all things spafford right now

Are you implying they’re going to get into a car accident?

Just realized they have a show an hour away from the Biscoland site on Sunday. Cant make it, but would have been fun to plan for it
