Random, Spontaneous Thoughts about UM (Part Pee)

Eh I was think more in the vein of a Phish fest but UM ie just UM 3 nights…say in September?

They can’t even sell out their August caverns date, let alone 3 nights

Wouldnt be surprised to see them do it in the future. Maybe not a fest, but 3 shows with camping

Wonderland Forest where they are doing Biscoland as well, or the Shawnee Cave Amphitheater

Both those venues are offering camping for all shows and are trying to be more active. The Wonderland Forest is in a dispute with the town, but as of now that is the policy and they want to keep it that way going forward

people like myself would be more apt to travel if it was a multi night run I would assume…but you know what they say about assumptions…

Just saw TAB at Wonderland, absolutely gorgeous. Zero security check, could have brought a 30 rack in. And then they were giving out free samples of some THC seltzer. Odd part is they scan your tickets in your car.

The UM/tDB co-headliner shows from 2022 were pretty undersold. Such a cool venue and location for a festival though. Would definitely go back for the right mix of artists.

Agreed, and this Cave Jam fest would make a lot of sense for bands like UM and moe. to play with a supporting lineup and up and coming bands, assuming SCI doesn’t come back. But we’ll see

I want to go to this festival but Cheese just doesn’t excite me to see as the main headliner. I wish UM wasn’t so tied down to three sisters park. Those caverns grounds are amazing and that festival set up looked sweet.

I know it’s low hanging fruit to bring up Umphrey’s declining, but it’s pretty crazy to me that we’re less than 2 weeks from their one Red Rocks show with two relatively popular openers, and there’s still tix available.

I didn’t follow close enough pre-Covid to remember if they were selling out their red rocks multi night runs, but it does seem wild they can’t sell out one night. Especially with all the EDM sellouts I’m seeing (what made me look into it)

I am pretty sure they have only ever had one sell-out at RRx. That said, it has been super packed a few times for multiple days of a run

I have only been a few years, but that is my memory

Not sure I get this. I expect that your average EDM artist is more popular than Umphrey’s

Used to be multiple nights, not sure if that makes it less of a draw for people traveling from out of the area.

Anecdotally, it does appear that some acts aren’t selling as quickly as previous years. Black Keys cancelled their North American arena tour presumably due to low ticket sales.

Try to get Zac Bryan tickets this summer though…

Upper bowl tickets still available for two nights of arena Phish in Grand Rapids, granted they are Tuesday and Wednesday nights after playing 3 weekend nights at Deer Creek. The post pandemic exuberance to see live music may be waning a bit.

Yeah that 2 weeks of Phish this summer is both amazing and crazy at the same time. I can’t ever remember an easier 10 show Phish run in terms of mileage and time. 10 show in 14 days & no more than like 5 hrs between venues, but I have to imagine it will cause ticket sales to suffer, with a predominantly older fanbase who can’t hit the road for 2 weeks straight. I know they have a pull with younger fans as well, but obviously plenty of seasoned vets in their crowds :man_shrugging:

Saturday show 2017? I think one of the shows in 2016 might have sold out too.

Also wouldn’t be surprised if 18 and 19 had at least one sell out.

They call the 2021 one a sell out but that’s an asterisk.

2014 was their first sell out. It was only a two night CO run (Boulder → Red Rocks) but they still sold out maybe a week ahead of time. Idk about any other years.

Your pic is killing me. That face.

Concerts are a luxury. Between TM/LiveNation absolutely bending people over with their stupid sales models (higher prices when there’s more demand rather than flat prices for a show? fuck off) and inflation being ridiculous right now, feeding yourself and paying rent comes before seeing a concert.

I went to the grocery store and bought like 6 things and it was $100. A big box of fucking Cheerios is $7. They’re fucking grains. Corporate greed is out of control right now

I encourage you to check out sites like budget bytes. Been getting tons of recipes from there. Been costing us about $10-$15 per meal for 4-5 servings. Always enough for at least two-nights

Here’s a real quick chart for us. That turn in mid-2021 is what I’m talking about:
