So you’re saying Jerry Garcia is a better singer than Eddie Vedder?

I mean not a lot but some. Never heard the dead on the radio as a kid or adult.

I’m gonna just go with XRT being heady, because I’ve 1000% heard them play West LA Fadeaway & Franklin’s Tower before.

I don’t really care about this conversation but it’s a fun way to pass the time.

I don’t think that the dead are an “American institution” to 90% of the country.

By virtue of being here on the bort we’re tapped into the music scene and music history and the dead feels more relevant to us than they really are.

That is heady. Truckin’, Casey Jones, UJB, and Touch of Grey were the radio cuts.

Ticket sales dont lie

Werent the dead forced to tour forever because they didnt make enough money?

Ticket sales don’t change what I’m saying. They had lots of fans, of course, who sold out countless stadiums. That’s still a small percentage of the 300 million people in this country.

Most random people on the street won’t be able to name dead songs.

In my experience a lot of people know “of” the dead but always follow it up with “i dont like that jamband shit”

It was in the mix for my 30 minute carpool rides to and from high school, and all we listened to at the job I worked in high school for a couple years (during the same time I was getting into the Dead, too). I don’t recall ever hearing any, but if there was it would have been far outweighed by the numerous Led Zep, G&R, Boston, AC/DC, etc etc songs that we’d hear every day.

They had/have lots of LOYAL fans. alot of repeat attenders pumping their numbers compared to the wide range of people hitting more mainstream shows. I think this is why the Dead is so legendary too. the committed drugband fans.

You are probably right about people on the street, but most people on the street cant even name multiple presidents or recognize sports teams symbols, etc. Most people on the street are idiots.

Ed Sheeran is selling out stadiums across the country and I can’t name one song by him. It goes both ways.

yes and no. that was mostly because they had everybody’s entire family on the payroll. Bill Walton could’ve paid to see the shows in Egypt on his own but no…

or maybe most people aren’t losers who nerd out on this shit…

I would argue Taylor Swift is an American institution at this point. Even if I dont know most of her shit.
