They were inevitable.
In hindsight, i think Kris was gone before he got surgery. I think him getting surgery was mutually beneficial. Kris gets surgery while still on health insurance and the band gets to try out new talent to see what they like, win win.
Nothing to back this up but feel like it makes sense.

I typically deal with anything in my life with a very large dose of irreverence, and itās gotten me this far so I donāt plan to stop. HOWEVER, as has been said a million times (ok, maybe a couple hundred), now that weāre undeniably on the other side of it, Iāve got a deeper appreciation of the 03-11ish years of this band. They truly captured lightning in a bottle, and were incredibly gracious to share it with us beyond just stepping on stage and selling t-shirts. Jake especially was extremely generous with his time and talent before and after shows. Iāll never forget watching intently as he explained how he tries to play his guitar solos as if they were written for other instruments to my Dad outside of HOB Nola.
Iām absolutely not writing off their future, or even my enjoyment of it, but with 1/3 of the cogs in the machine of perfection now officially gone, itās a different machine entirely.

UM is dealing with the karma from ripping their fans off with NFTs and creating their asinine VIP culture where you had to start paying extra to see rare songs.

I felt like a lot of the 2010s UM was angling for new fans and dumbing their music down to reach people that were never going to be hardcore touring fans. Shouldāve catered to the nerds like us who were already hooked.

I think they were just touring less than they used to. It impacted every region. In recent years the Bay Area wouldnāt even get one show a year.
Milwaukee Madison and Chicago were good for 2-3 night runs every year for decades, then it just stopped and you were lucky to get a show a year.

Maybe Iām getting old though.
No I joked all the time to my friends that as soon as I started getting into them (10 years ago) they stopped being a Midwest band and became a southern rock band and Colorado band.

Yeah there hasnāt really been a ākillerā Madison show in a long time. Iāve had a blast and thereās def been highlights but no straight up heaters
