Itās an open source tool that you can use in whatever way you want. The dashbort is hosted on a cloud linux server. But the upstream application developers run a large company worth 10s of millions of dollars. They setup discourse forums for large and small businesses, and do custom enterprise integrations
Our discourse instance is ran independently and is not affiliated with the company in any way.
Thanks for the response and thorough explanation homie. When I hit the button to add a pic it gives the option ātake picture or videoā so I always wondered what the deal was when it ultimately wouldnāt take the video file. Hope alls well at home, missing those mountains right now
Yeah its not impossible, but it would require doing some shenanigans in order to have all user uploaded files served from somewhere else than the server.
One day it will happen, when the server gets near running out of space. It has been on the todo list for a while, but the janitor is a busy man when it comes to computers shitting on the floor.
@stringz wasnāt the Patreon covering the sever fees at one point, curious if my $1 a month (alongside everyone else) is still enough to pay for all our shitposts considering inflation and all that. Maybe this is a question for root but I donāt want to bother them.
Yeah bills are like $10-15 less on average per month than patreon income right now.
Actually I think we migrate the bort to AWS and then some architecture work we can bring that price down, and then we could store videos. But thats not trivial and havent gotten around to making the time for it.
That said, in 6 months or so it will have to happen. Doubling the server side with the current provider would be $140 a month, which is $50ish more than the patreon brings in.
Definitely a non-starter, we donāt need video integration, especially if itāll bankrupt bort and benefit bezosā¦and you gotta trust me because thatās a quad alliteration.
Does adding any links to outside sites cause storage issues? Iāve toyed with mass sharing a load of Nugs playlists for UM purposes but wonāt if it jams things up.
