I have to imagine, as a band, they are still hoping for that one big breakthrough hit. With a name like Umphrey’s McGee and songs that lack a catchy chorus I don’t see that ever happening.
I do appreciate that moe. doesn’t appear to take themselves too seriously and seems to genuinely have fun playing.

I’m not sure what Sultan being unknown to most of the fanbase has to do with them not blocking him on social media. The average fan doesn’t know the band member’s names.
Yes, hating on the band happens regularly here, sometimes it’s a joke, other times it’s well deserved (i.e. the fucking rhino logo winning that contest). I think it’s hard to look at this band and not see traces of mismanagement and staleness, but maybe that’s just my opinion.

I think their sense of humor is cringey and lame most of the time but I’m not sure they take themselves more seriously than an average rock band
This is why they play horrible festival sets. Trying to push their mediocre modern songwriting. Always felt like they had a much better chance of reeling in random new fans by just being Umphrey’s. I didn’t know anything at my first show in ‘08 and was floored. Doubt that would’ve been the case if it was a set full of Verse/chorus UM tunes
