UM’s popularity may be declining but the conversation about it isn’t
& JLo canceling a whole tour
I think Animal Collective has recently-ish canceled dates as well
Another band that got popular around the same time as UM got bigger.
Fact ulis exactly what flyfish said. When you get into your 30s and 40s, people tend to have families, more responsibilities, realize they can’t be on permater anymore. And a bunch of mid-40s dudes aren’t appealing to the next generation of music fans, who probably also see fewer concerts in general than we did.
I will never have a family but I did get married a year and a half ago. I will always try to see a handful of shows a year but the days of me going on 3-4 night runs 7-10 times a year are long over.
Been there, done that. Still love Umphreys just as much as I did when I started listening to them 20 years ago. They are the only band that I will listen to a show or stream on occasion.
I don’t think this as a big brained idea that I had but, my generation(xennials or whatever people born around 1980 are called) would never have been able to turn UM into a Dead type band with sustained touring for years. Even if I didn’t have a family, i can’t party like i used to. A) getting too expensive and B) shit is getting too strong as time goes on. On top of that, the music they play IMO is more of “I’m here for a good time, not a long time” type music. Couldn’t imagine a 70 year old Jake doing chugs or playing WBG.
I know it’s already been discussed, but it’s not just UM. Some how this article popped into my feed this morning
What conversation do we have more?
Goose is mids or um’s popularity is declining?
I look forward to the “Has UM’s popularity increased?” thread in a couple years
Just peeped all the setlist threads from the past weekend. All looked awesome. Noticed people coming out of the woodwork, too
Could be a conicidence and they might not be trying to shift their focus, but if it becomes a trend and we start to see more setlists/playing like that it wont take long for them to gain some buzz. Saw that they made the stage change to help with communication/jams. The effort seems to already be there
The bort has been having basically the same recycled conversations in one form of another since its inception
The idea that anything on here is a waste of someones time or that their contributions are somehow more profound and meaningful is hilarious. Its a fucking DBMB
Taking my son to his first show in Indianapolis. He is jacked about going and I’m really excited about going with him. Boys ter is back, leaving the women in our lives behind for this one.
Please ask his opinion on attendance of the show along with the bands popularity decline?
Dudes nights out are what life is all about
I’ll also make sure I get some wook to blow DMT in his face and tell him welcome to the show bitch.
Dude that’s awesome!
#dosethebaby
Dude it’s the best feeling in the world. Y’all have fun!
Hoping to take my little guy next year to his first show. Might wait another year, 2 might be a little young.
Yes, my son is 4. He wanted to go last year but it didn’t work out. But he is old enough now where he thinks staying up late is some kind of badge of honor. So he should be able to make it the entire show. Plus that Indy venue was always kid friendly. I bought us seats on an aisle in the last few rows of the amphitheater they have built now. Anyone else going to that show come say hi.
Id probably take him to Stubbs since he could hang in the back and bring a chair in for him. Idk about ACL, place is cool but he might not handle the tiered seating upstairs. TWT
