Has UM's popularity declined?

Every show this year has been full of improv. Last nights second set was almost all improv.

But this is big

Gonna need an improv clock. DUMB ter definitely helped but 2008 seemed to have longer/more improv. But as you said, quality over quantity. I haven’t listened to a single note of umphreys this year so I can’t really have an opinion on the quality.

Nerd.

Ask @WhoDatVols he’s the only one I know that still clocks 'prov

'17 & '18 were good. '19 was great. COVID years were a wash. They seem to be starting off hot af this year. Im just waiting for the impending collapse around summer time. Seems like winTER is always strong and then they fall off later in the year.

Would be curious if it is intentional after some of the decline and negative feedback from fans, or just simply the result of getting back in the swing-of-things after the last few years of crazy.

This recent year I have seen jams that I actually want to go back and listen to rather than just going to a show and taking it for what it is a good time.

Quality of improv is def not as high bit the quantity has been up there at least since summer 22 began.

Yeah, when we were doing the full show improv clocks a few years ago, the 08 shows weren’t actually that high on the list. Last weekends shows seem like they could be at, or near, the top of the list, but I’m too lazy to clock them.

Sorry but

I personally believe Umphrey’s is still awesome and I am hoping to see them 30 times this year. Haven’t hit 30 since 2017 but it’s not because I lost interest. Mainly because of several poor choices I made in 2018 and 2019 led to the decline in shows then the pandemic didn’t help at all. But I’ve regained my footing and my priority again is padding that show count. My goal going forward is to average one three night run a month so 36 shows a year which shouldn’t be too difficult if they provide enough opportunities. I’m really interested to see what the summer and fall tours look like since they already have like 50 shows played/scheduled for 2023. They’ve really scaled back their fall touring so I’m hoping we see them at least eclipse the 80 show mark again for the first time in a minute.

Anyway, Umphrey’s is my favorite band and I’m going to see them as much as humanly possible going forward. Looking forward to crafting new friendships and finding new people to go to shows with. I’ll see all the older homies at the Biscuits in Colorado twice a year.

So you’re coming to first Ave then right?

I wish but I couldn’t get my ducks in a row before then without sacrificing some of the West Coast shows. My 100th show was at First Avenue in 2010 so I’d love to get back there again (did 2008 x 3 and 2010 x 3.)

So far, here’s what 2023 is looking like:

Sacramento>Petaluma>Anaheim>Vegas
Bend>Eugene>Seattle>Portland
Fayetteville>Austin>Houston>Dallas
Dillon>Red Rocks x 2
West Virginia x 1
Asheville x 3
Holidaze x 3

That will put me at 22. I’d love to do a Halloween run, New Years run, a return to Chicago, whatever run Louisville falls on, and then a Northeast run this year. Really hoping they debut at the Salt Shed this year.

Haven’t figured it out yet

I’m here for the @OSUmBeaverPhreak UM love fest content. Despite any perceived drop off in fun, these guys have such a wide array of good content that’ll never grow stale to these hard of hearing ears. Here’s to also hopefully meeting more Borterians this year. \m

I’ve been seeing this band since 2006 and the only time I was really jaded was Mantis Ter in 2009. But that didn’t last too long. They started bringing the heat back late 09. I think I did 32 out of 38 shows December 2009 to March 2010 and every night was fire. That Holidaze Kabump, I want to say 12.13.09, is worth a spin if you haven’t heard it. Plus the 2.3 Resolution from Lawrence. Lots of a great jams during that period.

This is gas. 2nd jam was amazing. The Partying Peeps after was a perfect complement.
