Idk if I had my expectations low or something, but the show in ATL has been fantastic. No clue how they’ve been doing lately but that sure made me feel like going on another dopamine to see what they’ve been up to.

glad to hear that. I’d say the past year or so has been a step down in the improv department. A lot more shorter jams and songier sets. I’ll have to check that one out and see if the southeast fluff is warranted

Great show in DC last night. I recognize a lot of songs but not great at names. I feel like there was a big Present Ghosts. Jams were hit or miss but when they hit, they hit.

Ran into your in-laws @StoneJackBaller, they’re a ton of fun.

Anyone planning on watching besides me?

Setlist (maybe not accurate)

Set 1:
Numbers Need Humans (no jam) > Nuggy (med length and med quality jam) , Zeus > Roid Rage (fairly short jam that had some interesting moments, but not too special) , Sleeping Giants (strong jotn contender…first section: good jam, not rushed, fun stuff from Chuck, second section: kept it minimal, great stuff from Fro, nice transition into a major key slow build peak with great Rob solos to top it off) , 386 (ambient intro before composed section, main jam was not super long and typical Eli focused, funny double outro reprise)

Set 2:
PLSS or maybe STADA? (Normal type 1 for the song but a classic rock guitar riff towards the end as a tease I couldn’t place) > Like A Ball (also jotn contender…section 1: solid jam with some good jazzy Rob chords and sustained themes, into section 2: a single note theme into a sick untz with the single note theme on loop, into a slow build peak) > Takin’ Care Of Business (milked solo section) , FABA2 > Man Or Machine (slow build into a tasty electronic jam which morphs into an extended Onionhead jam in the jam’s key) → Onionhead (Jam has an almost Floyd-y thing that they almost pivot out of but stick with for two sections, quite solid imo) → Fannie > Trapper Keeper (short but fun jam)

Encore:
Funny and heartwarming Rob story, Present Ghosts (no jam)

Nah it’s survivor night

I haven’t paid a ton of attention to Dopapod this year, but this seems to be their way now

Don’t disagree but I really enjoyed the Sleeping Giants that just came up and now is a vol 3 #86 which typically gets a good treatment

Wife has to bail tonight so I’d be going solo. Sounds like their playing has been just okay. Worth it to go anyway or save my money/energy and wait til what is probably a stop on their spring tour (and probably a 2-set)?

Hit the DC show last month. I had a great time but wasn’t blown away, so it depends on what your expectations are.
