Ravinia will always hold a special place in my heart because that was my first job in High School. Parked cars there for 4 summers.
I was more or less just talking about our theaters we have here. Between MKE and Madison there are some great venues that donât charge you an arm and leg to party in.
Classic Midwest fluff
I will fluff it like a pillow, just like the raptors on Facebook
My favorites, though theyâll never play either of these again:
The Ford Theatre (bonus points for BYOB)

The last time I was at Alpine, we got stuck behind a car that stalled leaving the lot. Took 90 mins just to get onto County road D.
Great American is a really cool and truly beautiful venue. Never saw UM there but have seen a handful of other shows there.
We stopped by the Des Moines Embassy Suites on the way to the Peopleâs show in 2008. I was 20 but somehow we finagled our way into the free drink happy hour and then convinced the front desk to print us off MapQuest directions to the venue and to throw in some of the check-in cookies with the print out. None of us were staying there lol.
Completely unrelated outside of Embassy Suites, but when I was a kid they gave my family the room below ours late night and we walked into a briefcase on the table then my sister walked into the backroom and there were people sleeping in the room already lol. We booked it out of there and the front desk realized they gave us a room a floor off. Could have been worse, but creepy nonetheless for all involved.
My ex and I were driving from Chicago to Houston and stopped at a hotel late night and the same thing happened to us.
Loved that Peoples show. Itâs probably in my top 5.
That was my first birthday show and it was quite a heater. They put Xs and wristbands on underragers - we just washed them off and tore the bands off and drank all night. Good times. Jake broke his string on the Hagstorm (white and black guitar used in 2008 that was destroyed in transit iirc) during the Roulette. What a show!
Iâll always argue the Peopleâs Kitchen is the GOAT but unfortunately the Chicago bias keeps Riverview at the forefront and sometimes you get some Colorado 'Phreaks talking up the Aggie Kitchen when I just want that space funk disco dance party from Des Moines OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN! \mm/
I walked into a motel in Oregon and thankfully there werenât any people in there, but it was full of luggage and inflatables for the river. Creepy to think about.
Kettlehouse and Red Butte last summer back-to-back made for an incredible two night run. Iâd do that again in a heartbeat.
Ford Amp in CA was great on that June â07 run tooâŚwould love to see them there again!
Yeah, I really want to make it to a Kettlehouse show. Looks great and I hear the drink prices are pretty low.
I donât know if anyone mentioned the Mishawaka, but that was such a let down to miss that show a week after the two nighter of the Canopy Club. I did catch the Tractorbeam set there though.
Alki told me once of a venue in California that was like the MishâŚwondering if it was that Ford Amp spot?
Glad you hit Kettlehouse; I was pretty bummed to miss the outdoor West Coast shows - still canât believe I didnât GITV for Jacksonville after a wild 4th bender lol.
The Palace Theater in Albany is also a pretty chill place to see the band IMO.
Caught them there in 2016 and 2017, which was with Redman and had that sick 1348/IC segment. Some of the coolest ushers work at that spot, they didnât really give many fucks about how down things were getting there. Front row balcony in 2016 and front row second section of balcony in 2017 were great places to catch the band from. Tour needs to get back on.
