sittin n reminiscin on jerry’s 40th. 1982. okc zoo amp. hot as fuck. big sack o shrooms one of our cooks harvested from a cow pasture in shreveport/ we dried em on top o the smoker. band had allegedly partied all night prior, i recall Jerry appearing pale as ever, esp in that brutal summer sun, and the show started early, like 5 pm, but they pushed thru and gave us a real good time. troopers, they were. so were we i spose, in our own way. . bunch of us had babies back then, so we dads camped out at the venue night before, secured our place in line for the mass land rush the following afternoon and commenced to making a bunch o new friends… The mammas caravaned in from t-town the following afternoon to arrive just b4 the show started, toting babies and big jugs of water… simpler times for sure.
Happy Birthday, Jerry. still miss ya a bunch. Thanks for all the memories, and for all the tunes that animate the soundtrack to the movie that is our lives.

Wow. What a fucking G. Great read too. Waiting for that top 50 shows list

What’s up, folks!? Haven’t been on the bort since the old version fell by the wayside, but I’ve missed it dearly over the years. Just wanted to plug over here a Twitch stream my buddies and I are doing every Saturday 3pm Central on twitch.tv/thankyouchef. We’re picking a different show for folks to listen to every week, having a Thursday listening party in Discord and on Saturdays hitting highlights of the show and talking to our guests about their experience with the Dead and their thoughts on the show. We’re trying to bring some folks who never listened along with some early heat (we did 1978-4-16 last week and this week is 1972-8-27).

Figured some folks over here might enjoy coming and hanging out. Otherwise, see some of you masked up in the lot on 9/5 for the drive-in show. I’m jacked!

Be well, dag.

Pretty sure I’m more likely to listen to them when it’s hot and I’m working around the house. Not sure why.

Also Jerry Sunday is common in this house even though it’s just coincidence.

Jerry with rays of sunshine beaming while you nourish your home is a nice combo, no doubt

Here’s a confession: I listen to the Dead often. Would venture to say that 7/10 times I’m not partying and listening to music, it’s the Dead.

That said, I’m really not particular with my listening. I “know” very few shows for how much I listen to them. I pretty much go through Apple Music and throw something random on or dig through my old iPod for a Charlie Miller recording (I’ve got a lot).

Whereas, with bands like UM and SCI, I’m more of an encyclopedia of knowledge. With the Dead, I just listen to them play, enjoy the fuck out of it, and leave it at that.

I hear ya. I was like that for quite a while. The past few years I’ve been digging deeper though

With the dead, so many of their standards are lovely…where as many bands (like um) the improv is the chase

While the dead had some good jams no doubt, I don’t hunt as hard for them. I’m more interested in different eras and how they were playing at that time

For me I’m a 72-74 guy, but I enjoy mixing it up too.

All good with the dead
