Not to sound like a 2014 Little Gift fan but UMBowl without a LD will certainly be interesting
shoutout to the 2/7/14 Phils Farm and Tinkles – two of my fav jams
How is it hard to understand that house lights made the room feel flat. I felt like I was seeing a Grateful Dead cover band. If they were playing a small dive bar, then sure, it’d be a cool experience. But the venue is very capable and it was expected
This reminds me of the UM Bowl Ryman soundscapes set last year. Everyone was saying “I loved listening to the recording while working” but if you were there you realized it was boring as shit
I tend to agree. But it depends on the type of music as well. JRAD for instance does nothing with lights and it fits them. Watch the 2011 BB Red Tape. Holy shit is Waful locked in during that jam and it adds so much IMO.
Idk why I didn’t just hop on the Goose or Billy Syrings train after college like a normal 23 year old. Instead I’m lashing out on a message board about getting kicked in the dick by a bunch of washed 50 year olds with no LD in their budget
I wasn’t there and didn’t listen to the full show, but from what I heard I would have been stoked about this show. The jammed out Kimble > 2nd Self segment was fun and it’s hard to complain about DBK + Dirty Work. And this AIT is JOTY worthy, it’s so good. I’ve already listened to it a few times this morning.
Bobby’s Dead. Goose sucks. Get a job
I didn’t find anything depressing about that show.
They played extremely well, I was closer to the stage than I’ve been since probably 2005 or 2006, the sound was spectacular….it was great. Maybe the lights didn’t bother me because we were up so close. I honestly didn’t even notice it until towards the end of the first set because I was focused on how well they were playing.
Glad you had a good time. Probably a me problem but it was jarring seeing the band in a downgraded venue that was still half empty with a Belmont intern on lights.
I got pretty hammered at Oktoberfest so maybe that wasn’t the best recipe
Lights were terrible for those jams. One of Waful’s worst shows IMO
you sure we’re talking about the same show? I remember that show was on the Outstanding Version’s of Light Design Thread back on bort 2.0 and almost made the cut for the HOF photo book, when waful switched to the spinning yellow lights at the peak me and all my friends went nuts
Hampton Beach 2014 Bright Lights is pretty amazing
Will do. Don’t get me wrong, standing there a half hour til showtime with what looked like 50 people in the room had me concerned. And I don’t really understand how the last few Caverns shows have been more crowded than last night, seems like the Brooklyn Bowl would be more packed as it’s way easier to get to, etc. Maybe the cave itself is a draw. I don’t know. But I was glad the band played like it was a packed room.
If a known fluffer like @WhoDatVols is hating on a show then I gotta trust his word. Umphreys only pulling 200 people on a Friday in a market like Nashville is definitely a bit depressing.
Jojo sit in tonight!
how hard is it to comprehend that their LD is on Injured Reserve and the venue’s LD had to step in, presumably with little advance notice and zero knowledge of the band’s music?
He isn’t even judging the music. He just hates the show because it didn’t sell well.
There’s a quick snippet on UM’s IG stories.
He’s better than that
I heard he was seen on Phish ter the next night
