These 5 night runs really push the limit of what the band is capable of playing right now with one guitarist without repeating anything. Gonna need to spend some time working out new arrangements for some of the classic two guitar songs now that its definitive Jake isn’t coming back. Too many cornerstone UM songs on the shelf since February.
Yea the setlists for me have looked pretty uninspiring on paper and a lot of the compositions sound weird without Jake to me. I know BB is game and doing his best but they’ll have to figure something out to diversify things more and play to their strengths if they go forward as a 5 piece.
Bring back Q*bert, Mamu, TosoT, Muff II etc. Totally lean into the bustouts to keep things interesting and bring sum old& sum new into the setlists

Have they remixed the prerecorded walkout music to remove Jake’s part or is it still the same?
Not to suggest jamband cliches but maybe they practice and use more suites. Use their limitation as an advantage, and get really good at a few select pairings beyond CW I & II. I’d suggest doing more covers, but i don’t think anyone would go for that.
As long as Bayliss continues to use a Jake Blade, a link to Jake will always be present on stage.

I agree. Besides the sound quality sometimes being bad, I have enjoyed listening to shows on nugs.
This is where I’m at with it. Sure they could find someone to play Jake’s parts and the compositions would sound better, but how will the improv sound? Most sit-ins I’ve seen have pretty much turned into type 1 shred fests. I’d much rather see how they develop as a 5 piece.
They’ve made progress on this in the past few weeks but still a long way to go before the songs sound “complete” again with 1 guitar. Joel MVP

I still think the best short-term solution is for UM to partner with bands like Squeaky Feet and other groups with guitar players who came up as UM fans and know some of their songs, then they can have the guest guitar player for 2-4 songs of the UM show, to cover the section of the catalogue that requires 2 guitars, and do the 5 piece for the majority of the show
I’d think it’s definitely worth a try…
This boards desire to make Squeaky Feet dumb themselves down for UM is lame. Let my dudes flourish and let the wannabe One Direction of the jam scene die.
