Dont attach yourself to a dying horse. Especially one that people already compare you to. It also seems like people care less about their exposure, and more about what it could potentially do to improve UM and their current situation. Which i get, change is scary, but let them dig themselves out.

If the band got the opportunity and it made sense for them, good for them, and obviously my opinion doesnt mean shit, bit the discourse always seems to be centered around them being a tool to improve UM, which is weird to me.

I respect the opinions on both sides of this. At this time, I’d get in the plane for Squeak, probably wouldn’t for Umphrey’s. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested in a Squeak + UM show. I did still have fun at the latest round of UM shows.
People can say whatever they want if that ever happened (“UM is dying”, “Squeak is a UM cover band”, etc.). I think I’d still have a good time if it did.

if you caught what I originally said, I'd put in more effort to see Squeak + UM than if it was just Squeak… I thought about it a bit longer and don’t think that’s true. The Feet stand up on their own.
Would be a fun way to trick a lot of people on this website into buying tickets for an Umphrey’s show

I also believe wholeheartedly that SF has already surpassed peak UM in terms of improvisational quality. SFs worst jam of the year would be in running for UM JOTY. So yes, to me, that is dumbing yourself down for the sake of nostalgia.
UM had a solid draw at the 2 Pisgah shows in AvL this year. 2300 outdoor capacity…pretty sure the 2nd night sold out. That was before the official Jake news.
UM jams haven’t been consistently interesting since 2019 and before that it had been another 6 years. I honestly dont know if they ever reached the SqFt level…even 06-11. I agree that SqFt should continue their upward trajectory. But if an opportunity comes along to ter with a bigger band comes along, that could only improve their draw. Also agree that band is not UM.

Question (not just for you, but in general) - what would be a good “bigger band” that makes sense right now?
I just want to see my 2 favorite bands share a show together. IMO, it’d be a party.

I think any of the younger bands. That is who is seeing growth and where you will find kids with moms credit card to jump on tour. Eggy, Daniel Donato, etc. Obviously goose would be most ideal from an exposure standpoint.
All those bands play long jams, too, even if boring. Their fans are all used to seeing long jams at shows.
To be fair, playing Dick’s afters could be a good boost for SqFt.
I honestly dont know. SqFt is such a niche that it may not make sense for anybody but UM right now.
Biscuits are about to announce a whole fall tour opening for Goose. Jam scene is dead.

This. Not saying they shouldnt tour with other acts, i am just saying that it shouldnt be Umphrey’s. Especially not for the sake of it helping UM play more songs.
