2023/02/02 - The Sylvee - Madison, WI

I didn’t I stood there with my arms crossed wishing I had a piss in the chamber but didn’t so I had to sit through my first whole Diablo in years.

Happy to get my red tape request last night and I thought set 2 was really good. Obviously some eye roll Bayliss moments set list wise, but I had a blast last night. I also offered to DD back to Milwaukee so first show in decades I didn’t drink kind of nice not feeling like a bag of dog shit today.

Really excited to listen back to that second set.

Pros: small strides, resolutions

Cons: no Diablo, disjunct jamming in red tape

Also I got to meet @RailroadEarther , and I was pleasantly surprised when @solvethebox showed up out of nowhere before the show. Very jealous of anyone going to 1st Ave tonight!

Did the same thing for GR. It was awesome.

Been doing a lot of alcohol free shows and I’m starting to prefer it. I even did NYE sober and enjoyed panic more than the previous night when I was drunk as a skunk and high on paper.

I definitely enjoyed myself last night. I thought S1 was pretty solid, with the surprising jammed out Syncronicity II being the highlight for me personally. I look forward to seeing how that holds up. August had a short, but nicely flowing jam as well. Red Tape was fun also.

My feelings on S2 are quite similar to what @snuckaskitchen posted. Again, will need to relisten, but Reso, SS, Puppet, CtC & Half Delayed all had something to feel good about, IMO.

Was awesome getting to know @wiscomtonslacker & briefly meet @snuckaskitchen as well.

Very grateful for the ride from @timewilltell & being able to see a handful of old friends I see all too rarely these days. :beers:

Are the 1st Ave shows being streamed?

By the way this was my pick 5 so I was feeling pretty good about myself first set

Snucka
Bottom Half
Red Tape
Nemo
Higgins

Had a nice evening in the balcony last night. Just got extremely stoned and relaxed in the comfortable movie theater style seats. The sound was impeccable up there too, thats the main benefit I see to these newer cookie cutter venues.

Seemed like Myers couldn’t keep his sticks in his hands last night, was dropping them a ton first set. At one point it looked like he jammed his hand or something, he was noticeably in pain trying to shake it off.

I’ve noticed this too. Brooklyn Steel is the cement and metal former warehouse style venue and the sound is way better than I expected

You get to hear what a 1940’s bus depot sounds like tonight.

I brought my buddy to his first UM show in 5 years and he was commenting on how clearly you could hear and make out the vocals, even for newer songs he wasn’t familiar with.

These rooms aren’t ornate and pretty like the old school theaters but they’re designed to accommodate music from this century. Not that the sound is bad in traditional theaters, I just think we know more about acoustics now when building a venue from scratch. The Harpa in Iceland was the best of both worlds. Modern high end acoustic treatment and very visually pleasing.

Can’t be worse than Terminal 5

No such thing as good placement for that dumb song. Glad I somehow escaped seeing it last weekend

Mad Love >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Half Delayed

Half Delayed is just like all those other boring new songs. 5 mins for them to take a break

Half Delayed >>>>>>>> Mad Love ALL DAY

I’d rather not hear either live but Half Delayed is a way better song. Between Bayliss’ vocals and Jake’s guitar tone I think Mad Love is one of the most grating sounding songs in their catalogue.

:face_vomiting: to all of this

Mad Love hits me right in the feels and then I get to air guitar. It’s a great fucking song. The end

Now just take a minute, have you ever really noticed how you’re always so preoccupied with how much you don’t like the song?

I’ve been told a thing or two and I shouldn’t have to explain it why this train of thought is dangerous.

Someday this song may change for you.
