deep sigh
In his defense, it’s not hard to assume that everyone around here is a guy.
100%, a great assumption… just wrong this time.
*THEIR, just to be safe
You’ve lost all credibility with all your optimistic views.
I never had bad time on tour. Especially when I roll solo and don’t have to bend to anyone’s choices but my own. I would write DBMB essays titled like “My Grass Fed Beef With The Lights” coming out of k holes in the hotel room post show and post them on the last -bort. But you need to separate yourself from the lifestyle and reflect on the playing months down the road once the afterglow wears off. You are still high Greg.
Nah I love this shit
That’s great dawg. I love this shit too. But your opinion on the music will be taken with a grain of salt because you are conflating the highs of ter with the quality of the music. I’ve listened to every show this year. I’m currently in the Search 4 from last night for fuck’s sake. I am starved for Umphrey’s. After seeing them 229 times between 2006-2017, I have seen only 23 shows since the beginning of 2018. They are my favorite band and I love going on tour with them. So to be without regular exposure to their live music and the friends I’ve made along the way, it’s been rough. I have a very forgiving ear for the band. Hell, I went into like a half dozen k holes this week with them as the soundtrack to all but one (Lotus took me down a very interesting path on the lone one out.) But they aren’t firing on all cylinders right now. Something is off. While it might be easy to point to the reimmersion of Kris, I think there might be other factors at play. Don’t have my finger close to the pulse anymore so I can only speculate. But you’ve been seeing this band since 2007, it should be obvious. Sober up Greg, or double down. Your call brah.
I think, at least what I’d really like, is for them to have a show up to y’all’s caliber that’s makes my optimism look like I was tired the whole show.
My money is on 3.14 in Eugene. They’ll have got their custy ideas out of the way in Aspen and be in a good grove once they land in Pacific Time. Choosing UMBowl, LA and Red Rocks/Vail over PacNW and Arkansas is where you went wrong brah.
Last time I actively had less than a good time at a UM show: Seattle 2015
Last time I left a UM show knowing it was beyond “standard great” and would actually stand the test of time: Missoula N2 2017
It’s possible to enjoy a show and know the band is capable of more.
Is it also possible to just enjoy a band without having anything negative to say? No offense, but you’ll mostly hear from me what I loved out of the band I like. Don’t see much value in discussing what needs improvement, I’m not KB lol
Yes. But everyone here as a relatively deep relationship with the band, so it’s more nuanced than being only positive.
There’s a lot of things I like about being born in the USA as compared to any other country, but I have plenty of negative things to say about it, too.
hoo boy, I’ll let someone else take this one.
We all fell in love with the band for their sound and approach at the time, and it’s no longer the same. Now it’s sort of like seeing a band or artist you don’t like. Would you have much positives to say if you were forced to see a band or artist you don’t like? You may say people should move on if they don’t like UM anymore, and some have. But those who have stuck around and voice criticisms do so because we want the band to get back to what we felt they did best. We wouldn’t be doing it if we didn’t think they could do better.
Is it reasonable to expect that the band themselves know they aren’t firing on all cylinders (at least not frequently)? Given their talent, I would think they’d have some level of awareness that they aren’t playing up to their potential, but I really have no idea, having no musical ability myself.
A picture says a 1000 words. Especially a picture that contains a 1000 words.
You think the dude behind Baysik has any level of self awareness?
Man y’all hatin’. Not saying there is much replay value but I really enjoyed all of last night from beginning to end. No it was not my favorite show ever seen, but I left feeling satisfied.
FWIW, I wasn’t really asking about last night’s show specifically. More about the recent runs in general. I still haven’t checked last night out, but I’m looking forward to it
