Sold out sylvee sucks, but overall I like the sylvee more than I thought i would
Never been to the Sylvee but I saw Lotus at the Orpheum on my birthday in 2015 and that place wasn’t anything special. I did meet @RailroadEarther at the rail and they played my request that night (Behind Midwest Storefronts.) So I guess I had a good time there. Hopefully I can check out the Sylvee this year!
I like the Sylvee. It’s new, clean, and the two shows I’ve seen there I had no problems moving around to bar/bathroom or seeing the band preform from anywhere on the floor. Easy parking too.
Only been once and remember loving it. Was brand new at the time. I think it was like the second show ever there
It’s just a boring corporate venue with mediocre sound & overpriced drinks. The balcony has the most lifeless energy of any venue that I have been to. So it’s either that or the non-tiered concrete floor.
I mean, there is one tier
The Orpheum is a nice old theater with a lot of character while the Sylvee is a boxy, ugly club with zero character. I will say there’s really easy access to bars and bathrooms at the Sylvee, I just hate new Live Nation clubs taking away from nice old rooms like The Orpheum. There is a decent capacity difference so it makes sense from UM’s perspective
My understanding is the Sylvee is owned by a local Madison production company? Didn’t know there was any live nation connection.
Pretty sure live nation is a partial owner of Frank Productions. 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids has a similar deal, live nation does the ticketing and co promotes shows.
Gotcha, didn’t know they had any sort of equity stake in these “local” venues. I thought they just had the contracts for ticket sales, sorta like AXS has with First Ave. It’s definitely deliberate by Live Nation to try and mask their live music monopoly.
Live Nation has their dick in all the mashed potatoes.
first ave tickets secured
Let me, any of the other locals know if you have any questions. I put this info together last year:
that last sentence cracked me the fuck up
Completely in jest. I was born in Des Moines lol.
thanks!
and, as always, Minnesota Pinball Map
staying with one of my high school friends who lives in st paul. long overdue trip to visit him, considering he’s come out my way 5 or 6 times in the last decade. i’m a terrible friend who needs UM as an excuse to visit
Oh nice. Can’t beat free lodging.
same. I mentioned UM to a buddy who lived in Birmingham and his wife hit me with the “you could also just visit whenever there isn’t a concert”
fucken zing
I’ve seen Umphreys in Birmingham and they’d need to be playing two nights to get me to go back there. Now Huntsville is a different story haven’t been there since I was a kid at Space Camp. Heard it’s developed nicely.
Tell her to move to a place worth visiting w/o music or to mind her business.
I would never expect anyone to come to St. Louis to visit me unless there was a concert they wanted to hit or they were going to a sporting event.
