This is gonna make people speculate that it’s gonna be in 2 cities.

Will Jake be there?

Anybody smarter than i able to confirm that there’s some stand up routine at Riverside on the 10th? R/Umphrey’s told me that’s the case, which would be pretty weird since I know UM was lining this up for a while now.

Pabst Theatre

Yah it’s the pabst. When Joel made the announcement he said something about playing a theater they’ve never played, in a city they’ve played numerous times

Gah, I’m hyped for this. It’s my birthday weekend, too. More than likely gonna fly into Chicago, get a rental car and drive up to Milwookie. Implied Cheese Castle visit. Stoked!

There’s a “Have an Idea” link at the bottom of that email announcement that takes you to a google doc where you can contribute to a unique new gimmick.

I’m submitting:

Summary

It’s UMBowl 12. I put data from ATU into excel and did some manipulation to refine the song library down to ones that are evenly divisible by 12. When looking at ONLY ORIGINALS I see the following:

If sorted alphabetically the list includes Attachments, Conduit, Final Word, Make It Right, Muffburger Sandwich, Padgett’s Profile, Rocker Part 2, Spires, Bottom Half, Triple Wide, Uncommon, and many other less played songs.

If sorted by date they were debuted the list includes Thin Air, All Thing Ninja, Pay the Snucka, Anchor Drops, Blue Echo, Push the Pig, Bad Poker, Nemo, Passing, Mantis, It Doesn’t Matter, Escape Goat, Staircase, and many other less played songs.

Lots of good options in either iteration. Obviously if any other new original is debuted between now and UMBowl this data will change, but the concept of evenly divisible by 12 is what this is about.

Also tried to come up with a new voting mechanic because that seems like it could be the most difficult to breath fresh air into. Here’s what I came up with. I doesn’t suck but I’ll admit it’s not as interactive as it could be.

Summary

Present the audience with a projection of a digital QWERTY keyboard (including number bar). The audience will text a letter from A-Z and a number from 1-6 (ie C3). The letter corresponds to the song title, and the number corresponds to a band member. Two votes are tabulated simultaneously. Whatever band member gets the most votes gets to elect a song beginning with the letter that gets the most votes (in the C3 example say 3 wins and that’s Joel, Joel then can think of any song he wants them to play that begins with “C”).

As band members and letters get chosen they are greyed out on the keyboard projection, narrowing down the list of options. Once every band member has contributed numbers 1-6 reset. The keyboard would start with numbers 7-0 greyed out, as well as letters that have a limited pool of options. The following letters have less than 10 originals: e, i j, k, o, q, u, v, x, y, z. That leaves 15 letters, more than enough for a set.

The idea here is that every band member contributes to the setlist and can bring in their own personal preferences.

Been planning to make this happen. I love Milwaukee

I wonder if the band would consider something novel like adding a 2nd guitarist for UMBowl. I’m really curious to hear a lot of their catalog with a 2nd guitarist playing with Bayliss!
