UM Posters Thread

Yeah I bought the Barrymore 09 run one I was at but didn’t have the poster. I got it a while a ago.

Got one from the January batch. Showed up within a week or so I think.

I made this poster over the past couple days. What do you guys think? Not the typical psychedelic art you see on here but I had a lot of fun making it.

Basically this is from a computer program sampling the light show from footage of the concert. You can see interesting patters like how it stays blue for the long drawn out synth chords in Shine On You Crazy Diamond, or flashes red for the scary parts of Resolution.

I can do other concerts too. This was pretty easy to make now that the code is written.

I’m gonna ask the band if it’s OK to offer prints. If I did sell prints it would be at cost or to benefit charity. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll get back to you

great stuff. would love to see a collab with the song timing/jam charts that @NikoEstevan does

Oh yeah I saw one of those charts once, they are so cool! It would be really neat to combine the two

I LOVE the idea but something about the typeface and black and white approach makes it feel unfinished. I’d go sans serif all caps or something to make it feel a little more stoic. And do like a gray background with white copy. Your call though

The idea is definitely pretty cool, nice work! One suggestion I have is it might look a little bit more full/complete if you stretched each row to fit the entire width of the image, something similar to the image below. While I think it looks a bit better aesthetically, I completely understand this removes the visual aspect of time and differing lengths of each tune, which might be an issue for some people. Cool stuff regardless, and I mean no disrespect by making changes to your art, just thinking out loud with that suggestion and thought I’d show what I mean.

Unrelated, I found your blog from the URL in the bottom right and I flipped your real coin. I gotta know how often you get hits on that thing haha.

This is so neat! I love the concept and I like how it’s presented to show relative track times. Did you do anything else with the data like compare which color was used the most?

Also, I flipped a heads.

I like this advice. My brother said the same thing. I’m going to try it with a sans font too. I was kind of going for an “unfinished” look with this font and style but of course it’s not for everyone! A more formal/refined look would be cool too! I wouldn’t call myself a graphic designer by any stretch of the imagination so all advice is welcome my dudes

James that is good advice! I’m also not sure if I want remove the song durations as information presented by stretching it out. Maybe I can stretch it out and add track times. Or center everything. I definitely want to balance having something visually pleasing with having some information. Somewhere between a concert poster and a science fair poster.

I get one or two flips per day at fliparealcoin.com. Once in awhile I’ll share something from my blog and I get a few more hits. Or a friend of mine will be super bored and click it for 5 minutes. It’s always amusing when it happens haha

I haven’t done anything else with the data but that’s a good idea! Maybe I could sync it up to the keys and timing somehow. Blue definitely correlates with relaxed sections, at least in this concert.

I agree with @James approach to equal out the songs, though I think it’s okay to keep them uneven based on length.

I would also personally have it without footnotes. I’m all about as clean of a design as possible (which is hard to find in this community) and having things like “jam” in there takes away from what I think is a really cool idea

I’ll never forgive UM for playing Shine On during that heater of a show.

I just got two flips in a row that landed on their side. I feel like that should win a prize or something!

Flip a real coin should be the decision maker for yes/no questions in @NikoEstevan 's next epic story/game.

Great idea!

Really? Maybe it was the psychedelics but the mood was right. All that fog/smoke and those lights. Loved it.

Edit: heads
