The Goose Is Loose

Assuming Goose would play the Lounge version because they are soft like that

I know. I agree with @ass

I would just rather be in denial

They sure as fuck couldn’t cover Wizard Burial Ground :joy:

Anyone else checking out this set 2 Suwannee stream? I’m kinda in the Goose is overrated camp after listening to a ton of their live shows in 2019. But have nothing better to do tonight

Didn’t check it out last night, but it’s been posted on Youtube. So far there’s pretty good flow and transitions. I’m at Arcadia which is turning into a great jam. Listening to Goose’s 2019 shows got me hooked, but I’m finding their jams a little redundant, sometimes during the same show. I do like how they create lots of tension and release (by holding out the 5 chord, I think) during jams, I like their songs, and they’re all great players. They just need to learn how to vary their jams a bit and not just base them all off of supporting Rick’s guitar solos.

Giving their Suwannee show a shot. Ricks voice is definitely the thing that stands out, as well as the bass tone. It feels really lethargic to me. Is Wysteria Lane always this slow? Also when did they get another drummer lol, seems like Ben is doing all the heavy lifting.

Bassist seems to be visually evolving into Stasik

Also fuckin Jealous of Pete’s new Suhr.

Song 2 was enough to get me to tune out. I love mellow music but it felt really lifeless to me. The jam was going well, if not a little generic. I don’t really get the indie rock comparisons with Goose. They don’t really capture that indie vibe to me

This is why I thought the Bingo Tour shows were great. Jam bands in general seem to excel (or at least do something genuinely interesting) when they’re forced out of their comfort zone and truly have to think spontaneously.

Having things like “no drums” and the various exercise activities (where they’d individually leave their instruments and do the task) meant they had to keep rotating the focus of the jam. That alongside never knowing what song/cover was next meant that the jams never felt too similar or got too stale.

And it was kinda the same with the Aqueous quarantine basement streams. It seemed like we were actually getting a glimpse into them trying to grow as musicians and push the boundaries of what they felt comfortable doing…and imo there’s no reason that wouldn’t be the case. There wasn’t an audience, they didn’t have to release that footage, in theory all they wanted to do was see how successful they’d be playing 1 song for an hour.

I would have chosen some different songs for a festy set, but I wonder if the time of day played a part. I feel like they throw down when it’s late night. That said, they missed out by not playing White Lights.

I dig Wysteria Lane, but I agree it sounds a bit slowed down.

That’s a fair point. My counter would be that Goose is so hyped up that I bet a lot of people were ready to throw down for their set no matter what time it was

Agreed

Edit: were they slow ready or so ready?

For the record slow ready > so ready

Jamband fans are awful and classifying music. Throw a sax into any jamband song and it’s automatically “jazzy”.

I was told to listen to the All I need. Skipped to the jam and thought it was legit. The perc adds a better element to their improv.

For sure. I get so pissed when people call my favorite jam band Weather Report “jazzy”
